Four years post op today!
Four years ago today was the first day of the rest of my life. I know, that sounds corny. But that's really how I thought of it at the time. It's almost noon now where I am, and this time four years ago I was being wheeled into my hospital room, fresh from the recovery room after my RNY. I was on IV morphine and feeling pretty good.
It's been a long road and it's been rocky at times. In some ways, it's been more difficult than I expected. People ask me sometimes if I would do it again if I had it all to do over, and I certainly would. I think I would try to be better prepared, but some things are hard to really grasp ahead of time. Some things you just have to figure out as you go.
My life is much better in some ways since surgery, but it certainly didn't fix everything. I do believe I would still be morbidly obese if I hadn't had surgery, though. I was 270 pounds on the day of my surgery, and I'm pretty sure I would be at least 300 pounds now if I hadn't had RNY. I'm pretty sure I would have just continued to gain. I would be sitting here in my size 3X sweat pants (or bigger) instead of my size 10 jeans that are a little loose.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
