Not a good day...
I'm really annoyed with my PCP's office right now. I've been battling on-going yeast infections, and have seen several doctors in the practice about it. I called today to set up an appointment specifically with her, and was told she only sees patients same day--otherwise, her first "opening" is in January! I had switched to her because I've had her during my pregnancy and my original PCP left to work closer to her home.
I think I'm so annoyed because I never had this problem until right before surgery. I'm also annoyed because I've had to explain my situation to everyone I've seen, which is upsetting to me. I really want to be rid of this, and even if that means I have to get rid of my IUD, so be it. I've tried everything, and it just doesn't work. I really believe I need a much stronger anti-fungal in order to get rid of this once and for all. I'm also thinking I need to cut out dairy completely because everytime I have more than a few tablespoons of milk, it seems to come back. I'm just having a rough day, and needed to get this off of my chest.
Seems like a rough situation. The best thing to do is ALWAYS see the same doctor, I am not a fan of seeing different doctors every time I go into my PCP. I just want to see the same doctor she is nice to me, she knows me, she listens to me and I trust her judgment. If you are not happy with your PCP change to a new PCP.
I would suggest going to your OB/GYN especially because you may need your IUD removed. If there are no appointments available ask to be put on the cancelation list or keep calling back in case of any cancelation.
Bottom line don't accept subpar medical treatment.
I'm sorry, that sounds really frustrating. I used to have the same problem when I was first post-op and have a few ideas. Even if they're not a perfect solution, it might give you some relief until you can see the doctor. My IUD was not the culprit, so you may not have to give it up.
-Eat yogurt or take probiotics. Often yeast infections are the result of an imbalance of bacteria and yogurt with live, active cultures can help.
-Wear cotton undergarments that are breathable. If possible, avoid very tight nylons or stockings. Using a pantyliner is also sometimes helpful to keep the area dry.
-Use natural soap. I like the Aveeno unscented body wash the best.
-Use "free and clear" laundry detergent that does not have scents or allergens. You'd be surprised how much your clothing can irritate you.
You're already using a form of birth control that should keep your hormones in balance, but who knows? It is certainly possible that your body chemistry doesn't agree with the IUD hormones. If you have paraguard (the non-hormonal IUD), it may be worth looking into trying Mirena. Mine practically ended my periods and has helped me be less of a crampy grump during that time of the month.
Feel better soon!

Oh no. I'm sorry you're having to deal with that. Yeast infections are the worst and I can't imagine having one for an extended period of time. I had one at one time that wouldn't clear up and my BC pill was the problem. It was too strong. As soon as we changed it, it went away. Maybe you won't have to give up your IUD but just have to change it. As far as your docs office, I wouldn't keep banging my head on that. If you're not getting the treatment you deserve, go somewhere else. You could try calling a GYN and see how long it would take to get you in. You may be surprised! Good luck.
