Extra dry skin

Anyone going through this? My skin usually get drier in the winter (like most people), but it seems even drier than usual. I'm getting my water and vitamins in, so does anyone have any recommendations on a good cream I can use? Lotion is useless because as soon as I put it on, it's already absorbed into my skin. I prefer one with little/no fragrance--Aveeno doesn't work for me. My skin gets red, blotchy and itchier when I use it.

My other thought is to use coconut oil or jojoba oil after showering?

I'll be watching this thread.  I'm over 7 years out and deal with dry skin all the time.  I use baby oil on a wet wash cloth daily (except my face) and it soaks in quickly.  I agree lotion just doesn't do it.  My hair is also much drier since surgery.  I eat a fair amount of fat too.

Yes! I look like a shedding snake. Two things: try adding back a little fat to your diet, such as avocado, and try apricot kernel oil. I got some from Vitamin Shoppe. It has no fragrance. I slather it on after showering. My hide is so scaly it soaks right in. It has provided a lot of relief for me, and I am sensitive to fragrances and ingredients.

Coconut or jojoba would probably do the trick nicely too.

Oh yeah! I forgot about apricot oil. I was suggesting the other things because I'm a massage therapist, so I could buy larger quantities of them.

I bought it out of sheer desperation. I was waking myself up at night scratching my legs. Attractive, right?! But if you can buy the others in bulk, it might be worth it.

Good question.  I'm like you, drier skin in the winter but I'm about 12 weeks post op and my skin on my arms is driving me insane, itchy and red.

I start off with Olay In Shower Moisturiser, it really works! After that I use Gold Bond Skin Therapy Cream. It isn't greasy at all and for me it moisturises well. Aveeno does the same to me, red and blotchy isn't the look that I go for.......

As we get older or with dry skin, a form of cream is much better to use.  I agree with Multi-Mom and have been using Gold Bond Therapy Cream also.  They also make it unscented.  I found that on Drugstore.com.  Great stuff!  It is the only thing I use.   Jane

My dermotologist said CeraVe moisturizing CREAM. Not lotion but cream. It sure works for me. I bought a jar for my 93 year old Dad. He was really flaking away. Smoothed him right up. You can find it at the phatmacy or on Amazon. I also use the facial moisturizer as my face was soooo dry too.

Baby oil right after you turn off the water in the shower...your skin is a little wet and the oil really moisturizers.
