Beginning to think surgery didn't work

I am beginning to think that the RNY surgery I had on Oct 16th failed.  I have barely lost 10lbs.  I am hungry all the time and can eat way more than most people I read about on here.  I can eat 2 slices of meatloaf in one sitting.  I drink about 50 ozs of fluids a day.  I have atleast one protein shake a day.  I take all of my vitamins.  I do everything but exercise.  I am going to get some workout CD's today from the library.  It is getting so frustrating reading all the success stories.  I have even cheated a few times and ate some sweets and they don't make me sick.  The biggest difference I have noticed since the surgery is that I have way more Gas than before.  If I don't lose anymore weight by the time I see the Dr in 3weeks I think I am going to ask for a revision of some sort.  I dont think the surgery worked.

If it doesn't work in 6 weeks you want a revision?   Are you serious?

If you read a days worth of posts here, you would know exactly why you have barely lost 10lbs in 3 weeks (fluids/surgery for a clue).

What was your expectation?  30lbs, 50lbs, 100lbs in 3 weeks?

You might consider just doing what you are doing and get some exercise - if not for weightloss, at least for your health.   Unless you are severely physically disabled, you should at least be walking every day!

Last point:  I suggest you do some reading up on this surgery - you have allowed a drastic re-routing of your intestines and you don't seem to understand how it works - that's worrying ...   Just reading an hour or so on here will give you an idea of what to expect!

Good luck with your weight loss - I'm sure someone else will be along to pat your hand ...

October 16th and you are not even at four weeks yet...I wouldn't be worried at all.  You are on par with where you should be.  I know we have high expectations as we get caught up in the wave as we read things on here and expect the weight loss to be immediate.  However, that first month after surgery is all about your body just trying to recover from surgery.  I was told not to do strenuous exercise until the 6 wk. mark.  I did not eat solid foods until 6-8 weeks.  You may want to slow down and stick to your 3 meals a day and 1-2 protein shakes a day (no more than 4oz.).  Right now you are battling the psychological effects of your brain thinking you need to eat.  As time goes on, you'll see that you are indeed not hungry like you think you are.  Eventually you'll realize your body needs for little to exist.  After about 6 weeks you'll see more of the changes you were now anticipating.  Give yourself time to let your body adjust to the surgery.

Hang in there, you are doing just fine!  But I would definitely forbid you to be around sugar right now, stick to the protein sources. Sugar is such a bad addiction.  It was my biggest downfall.  I only recently ate something bad for me (one cake bite of chocolate fudge). I savored the moment but vowed it would not be a daily thing.  That's what got me into trouble in the first place.

Track your food intake. if you can eat a lot in one sitting it doesn't mean you should. Follow your surgeons plan. Find something to focus on instead of the scale. Get out enjoy life and put the negativity and disappointment aside for a bit, or altogether forever!!!! Stop cheating it's a bad habit and it's what got us all to the point where we needed this surgery in the first place so I know you know it's not good!!!

I do not say any of this to be mean or at all disrespectful. I am saying it because I think it's what you need to hear right now to get you out of the place you are in right now.

One of the exercise videos I have and love is one I found online doing a search for a good video for me. It's called In Fitness & In Health by Rochelle Rice, Empowering woman through Movement.  http://rochellerice.com/  I like it because she has a soothing voice and isn't' over the top peppy which I often find annoying in most workout videos. She shows you several ways to do the exercises so that you are comfortable with where you are in your life as far as mobility. It was about $10 online. you can preview it online to see if you like it.

The surgery isn't going to do the work for you, you have to do the work!!! At 3 weeks out you have "cheated a few times" and eaten "2 slices of meatloaf at a sitting". Log every morsel that goes into your mouth and bring that with you when you see the Dr in 3 weeks.

This surgery is only a tool.......think of that tool as a hammer. Just by owning a hammer doesn't mean that it is going to build you a house, but you can use it along with a lot of hard work to build a house. It isn't going to do the work for you while you sit and complain that it isn't working!!!

^^^ What she said.
And NO doctor is going to entertain a revision after only a few weeks, so save yourself the embarrassment and don't even mention it.

Patience grasshopper. If you are following your plan that's what you need to do.

Hopefully your surgeon or NUT have you a plan to follow. More than likely you gained weight after surgery from all the IV fluids and it has to come off too.

It's way too early to consider a revision. Try to relax your body must heal and that takes time.

At three weeks post op I was still eating pureed foods. I can't believe you have "already cheated a few times". And my doctor and my surgeon both told me to be successful long term we need to exercise. I started walking three months before my surgery and right after. As for what you are eating, I measure out my portions and when I am done, I am done. I seem to be able to eat more than a lot of people on here eat, but my choices are healthy and I track everything I eat.

You're eating too much.  I'll just say it.  And go exercise.  Not sure what else you are looking for.  If you don't get a handle on it at 3 weeks you'll never be able to do it later.

Surgery weight:  232 lbs. / Goal: 145 lbs. Height:  5'5"     Fat? Ain't nobody got time for that.

I hate to say this, but at only 3 weeks out and eating that much food- that may be the problem you aren't losing faster. I am 6 weeks out and only eat 3 oz. a meal (if that much) That is 1/3 cup of food. Did you doc give you a plan to follow, didn't he tell you that he only gave you the "tool" and that it's up to do to work it? I agree with Lora, I wouldn't ask the doc about revisions...Just stick to what you are supposed to be eating, quantities, certain foods, ect. and it will work for you.
