My First OH Post - Nervous

Hi Everyone!

I'm new to this forum and thought I would post a new topic. I am currently about 5 lbs away from making the call to put me on the "surgery schedule list".  My Dr. Said I had to loose 20 lbs, which I've almost achieved in just over a couple months. I currently have Type 2 D and sleep apnea.... so it's time to get going on this journey.

Naturally, I'm very nervous. Not just about the surgery, but also the lifestyle after the surgery. How did everyone deal with the nerves in the months leading up to the procedure?

I honestly was so sick of being SMO (my BMI was 57!), and was thrilled that my insurance had dropped the WLS exclusion, that I was not nervous at all... Until the morning of surgery... And then I was petrified and in tears! I couldn't believe what I was about to do to my body! I was 100% committed to following a healthy food plan for life, and doing whatever it took to avoid regain (I knew someone *****gained about half the weight in just a couple of years). I was just really worried about the physical aspect (especially since my RNY was open).

It was the best thing I ever did for myself! You will feel SO much better with the excess weight off! Just commit to changing your lifestyle and the way you eat, to staying in a support group of some kind (even if just coming here), to taking the vitamins, and to dealing with any psychological or emotional issues that contribute to your overeating (because those will NOT go away!), and you will do fine.

Thank you Lora,

I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I still have the last 5 to go and then there is likely going to be a few weeks delay... I'm thinking it will be in the first quarter of 2013. Wish me luck!

Like Lora said, I was so happy to be approved that I wasn't nervous at all. Best decision ever. ever. You will feel so much better and life will be filled with new opportunities. Keep up the good work and don't look back!

Welcome!!
I didn't become nervous until I walked out of my surgeon's office with a date for surgery. That is when it really it hit me that I have taken all the steps needed to change my life! I only had to wait 2 weeks for surgery so I really didn't have time to get too nervous.

For me the day before surgery was when the emotionals came flooding. My parents came onto town and my mom was nervous and mad me nervous. Morning of surgery she started crying and I had to ask her to get out. I wasn't afraid of surgery but seeing my mom scared worried me.

It's a lifestyle change, no regrets for me. I'd go through the entire process again if I needed to.

I wasn't nervous until the morning of the surgery. I will always remember asking my Dr. to PROMISE me I'd wake up!!!

Relax and concentrate on losing as much as you can before surgery and working on changing those unhealthy eating habits!!!

Some nervisness is not to be expected.  It is major surgery.

If you have not found it there is a Men's board on OH.  Come see.

Nerves are normal!

Where are you at with fluid intake? If you aren't up to at least 64 ounces a day then start it now. Not only will it help you with pre-op weight loss, it will help you with getting into the post-op lifestyle.

I dealt with the nerves (not that I was all that nervous) by looking at before and after photos for HOURS!!! It made me even more committed to my goal to have this surgery and become healthy.
