Puree yummmmmmm (not!)
Hey y'all, I'm 2 weeks out and about to go into the puree phase and I gotta tell ya, I am not looking forward to it. I haven't really had appetite since the surgery, and I'd just as soon skip this phase altogether. I can't conceive of the idea of drinking my meat, it's grossing me out just to think of it. Is there any way out of this? Or a substitute? What is this phase supposed to accomplish? Can I just have pureed fruits and more soup or something? As always, anything you folks could tell me would be greatly appreciated. I don't feel too badly, am recovering on schedule, but Am just ready to get all of the phases out of the way, and start eating smaller portions of healthier foods.
Hellllllllllllllllllllllllp pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease :)
Thanks again!
Add a little broth to the pureed food and gradually make it thicker. There is a reason for the gentle introduction of solid food to your diet. Your doctor has many patients and he has worked out the best plan as he has experienced with his clients. You can set yourself back in your recovery if you try to reinvent the rules. Add seasonings for flavor, research the internet for interesting recipes and you can make this fun. I discovered that asparagus soup was delicious when added to chicken. Hard boiled eggs combined with tuna or chicken and lite mayo was high in protein. The last time I roasted chicken in a bag. It was moist and the juice was rich with flavor. I put onions, thyme, parsley, and a sliced lemon in the bag...I salted and peppered the cavity. It baked for about 1 hour at 350. Strain the broth and cool to remove the fat.

There are so many protocols out there with different doctors. I was not on a pureed stage. Went from solid fluids to chicken, ff refried beans, cheese, yogurt. applesauce. I still continued with broth and strained cream soups. You are able to only hold just a small amount. I made sure to drink my fluids and most importantly, protein shakes. Did you know there are many doctors that do not do protein shakes? So again, same as pre-op liquid diets. I did not have that either.
The other poster is right, you will be thru this stage in no time. Good luck! Jane
It seems every doctor is different. Mine had me on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks pre-op and 1 week post-op. Then I could start pureed food for 4 weeks. No solid food until week 5.
I am doing well on the protein shakes though, and no nausea at all. I feel so great it's hard to believe they did anything. My challenge now is just recognizing when i am full, and staying away from pureeing onions into my food. My tummy was not happy with that.
check your plan on pureed foods my plan allowed canned meat, chicken, tuna and eggs cottage cheese, yougart. None of these things need to be altered you can eat them as is and not have to worry about the texture thing. Its a short stage and in the grand skeme of your life it will be barely a blip on the radar. You can do anything you need to do in order to be sucessful. This wont last forever and we are here if you need us.
