Sorry. That really sucks. Can you maybe call someone to pick you up? We don't do christmas at all. We do fine without it. Just hang in there. I'm sure things will get better. We will pray for you.

Do you have young children in the home?  If so, you and your husband need to try to scrape up some money somewhere.  I know you can't pull money out of the air and I am so sorry you are in this distressing situation.  Even going to the dollar store for the children and wrapping up some stuff.  I wish there was a solution and I don't know what you folks are doing for money to live on, let alone fix the car and have Christmas.  Any family that can help you?  I hope something turns around for you.  Jane

If you have children, there are many organizations that can help with gifts - like adopt-a-family type things. Check around in your community or contact your church. I pray you find the money for your car repairs and healing for your foot!

There are a lot of organizations out there that will help, but you will need to do some searching to find them. Call your church. Call the local food banks. Or see if your child's school has a social worker who will help. We have a crisis counselor assigned to our school that helps families in need. Be proactive and not a victim. You children need to see you rise above all the adversity. It's in your hands. Good luck!!

Do you have a mom or dad who could help. Around here with my kids it is the bank of Dad. Also is there a church that you go to that could help. We were very poor, actually lived in a house with a dirt floor. But churches in the area left presents at Christmas time on our porch.

Hey Sarah. *hug*  I'm sorry life's been throwing you lemons lately. I don't have much advice about the hospital or the car. :(

One thing, though... Now, take this with a grain of salt, coming from a person who doesn't celebrate Christmas... but perhaps instead of "buying Christmas" this year, you could take the family out and help someone who has even less. Join a service project at a church or community center or shelter. Spend the day working soup kitchens, handing out toys to the homeless, distributing gifts at a nursing home or hospital.  There is always a call for volunteers, and giving back and helping the community will not only take your mind off the things you are doing without, but may help give some extra perspective into how much worse it could be. Volunteering is a very good lesson for children, and helps strengthen family bonds. Not to mention, fate has a way of repaying generosity and kindness.

This website has 53 volunteer requests--all organizations looking for Christmas help, near Tyler, TX.

I hope there is some relief in sight for you, and I hope you have a good holiday.

And the Grinch, with his grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: "How could it be so?
It came without ribbons! It came without tags!
"It came without packages, boxes or bags!"
And he puzzled three hours, `till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before!
"Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store.
"Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!"
