Hi, How long were you out of work for the surgery? My goal it to have the surgery done on a Friday and go back to work 10. days later. I have a desk job. Is this possible?

Most people seem to take two to four weeks off but some need more time, some less.  Depends on if you have any complications and just how quickly you recover.  I had some problems and ended up being off for almost three months.

I went back after two weeks to my desk job. Big mistake!! I should have waited three weeks. I was feeling much better after week three.

Why do you say big mistake? Were you in pain? or nausea?

Yep... Pain, nausea, weak, trying to adjust to soft diet. I felt much better after three weeks and remember thinking I should have waited. When is your surgery?

I had surgery the 6th and I plan on going back on the 26th - so almost 3 weeks.  I'm feeling pretty good at the 11 day mark, but I am thankful for the extra time to get used to my new eating/exercising schedule.

My doc says 1-2 weeks and he won't write a note for longer than 3 weeks. I went back at 7 days and wish I would of taken 2 weeks.

I had my surgery 10/26 and went back to work 11/13 part time this week and back to full time next week. I work in a call center so I am at a desk all day. No problems so far.

I tried to come back after one week but ended up going home and not coming back for 2 months.  I had strictures twice and had to be hospitalized though.

I had surgery on a Monday and returned to work the following Monday.  I also have a desk job.  I have a history of recovering very quickly following surgery so moved forward with a positive attitude that WLS surgery would be no different.  In fact, recovery from WLS was much easier than my orthopedic surgeries as I was not in an arm sling, or on crutches.  However, I will admit to being a little tired that first week back to work.  Just don't push yourself, listen to your body.  Wishing you the very best!
