My surgery went great. However, I did have some complications in recovery. Nothing too scary and nothing the hospital staff and doctors were not able to handle.  I had some problems coming out of the anesthesia.

Scary things do and have happened. The OR is scary by it's very nature. Does becoming conscious in the middle of an operation count? How about waking up in recovery, being told it looks bad we want your consent to do something else?

All the above happened to me at different times. I lived through it all. I don't see the point in worrying about it. If you have picked a good doctor he will shepherd you through the unexpected.

Are you serious? You actually woke up in the middle of surgery. I so wish you had not said that. Now I have a new mega nightmare fear. How bad did that hurt? AARGH!!!!!

I had internal bleeding.  Doctor thinks he may have nicked some organ in there.  Went in for another surgery to clean it up, received two units of blood.  I had a great team and they knew right away something was wrong when I was dizzy and couldn't breathe.  Still SO happy I had this surgery.  I'm down over fifty pounds since I started my journey.

I have had a total of 12 surgeries in my lifetime (yikes! I had never counted them before!), and the ONLY thing I have had happen was once starting to wake up when I still had a tube down my throat. I didn't even fully realize at the time what it was (I wasn't very coherent, of course, and couldn't even open my eyes yet) but I started to react anxiously to being able to feel it. The nurse noticed right away, though, and I was back "out" (probably just a large enough dose of morphine or Dilaudid or whatever) almost immediately.

Relax. As my mother would say, "Don't borrow trouble."

I've had other surgeries and the only problems I was was getting sick from the anesthesia. However after my RNY I had dry heaving really bad and I has to go have a ct scan and have a drain put in. I really wondered why I had this surgery. Buyers remorse. Then 2 weeks after my surgery I started dry heaving again and ended back in the hospital for a second surgery. That's when I had the worse case of buyers remorse. It was awful. But after I got my strength back and when I was watching the pounds melt away, I felt much better about my journey. Over 3 months out I would do it all again. I've never felt better about my decision and I'm very happy with my progress.
Good luck to you.

I requested an epidural with general but they talked me out of it saying there wasn't much pain. They were wrong. Like my hysterectomy I would liked the epidural in forb24 hours post

Are you trying to talk yourself out of doing this?? It's like pregnancy, there are horror stories, but most are perfectly normal and without problems. My biggest OR horror is that I came out with bed head. My hair was sticking up in all directions

I've had many surgeries. I always got sick from the anesthesia so I made sure to let them know when I had my RNY. They have me extra phenergin before I woke up and it worked. I do have trouble coming out of anesthesia so I always let them know.

When I had surgery for a deviated septum I also woke up. It's known that surgery on the head causes more blood (think how much blood one has with a bloody nose or busted head) so my doc let me know I wouldn't be knocked out like previous surgeries. They gave me a sedative to keep me relaxed it really wasn't bad and didn't freak me out. There was ZERO PAIN.
