Medications...another one bites the dust!!

As of yesterday, I am officially off of all medications for diabetes!!  Yay!  I was taking Kombiglyze (combination of Metformin and something else...can't remember) twice a day and Amaryl twice a day.  After surgery, I was taken off the Kombiglyze.  In the last few weeks, I've had episodes of low blood sugars and called my PCP.  He returned call yesterday, we talked about my fasting and random blood sugars, all of which have been below 100 most times, often in low 70's in the afternoons. So, he said, "YAY for us! Stop taking the Amaryl!"  It was funny to hear him say that...he's always so professional and kind of stiff.  My blood pressures are starting to run low normals, also.  I was taken off of two medications for blood pressure after surgery and remain on one in the morning and another twice a day.  So, I see those dropping doses or stopped in the near future!  I"m hoping my cholesterol medicine will be stopped, too...my last lipid profile was fantastic!  Soon, I may just be taking vitamins and no prescription medications at all...how exciting!!

Congrats, Jan on the remission of diabetes - a great day!   Remain mindful of your diet and test your blood sugars from time to time so you can detect any changes ...

My PCP recommends that I continue to check the morning, fasting sugars, and if I feel low.
I'm sticking to this diet, and posting my labs on the fridge as a reminder to make healthy choices.  Most people post photos, I'm posting my labs!
I may be contacting you for advice when life happens :)

It's a great feeling to come off of medications.  Especially if you've been on them for a long time and thought you'd be on them for the rest of your life.  Good luck to you with those pesky medicines!

Isn't it a great feeling? Knowing how devastating diabetes can be because of other family members, I was ecstatic when I was able to go off all diabetes meds immediately after surgery. That alone made my RNY a success in my eyes. I bet you feel exactly the same way. What a miracle this RNY can be, huh? Congrats to you and may your future be a healthy, diabetes free one!!!
