How much fruit is too much fruit?
I know there are carbs & natural sugars in fruit, but how much fruit is too much fruit. Every now & then I will get on a fruit kick. I get all my protein in everyday usually 80-100g + here lately. I love fruit, its refreshing & a better alternative than eating something sweet like chocolate. Lol Last night when I was going to bed I had the shakes really bad & felt like I could pass out. I ate 3 little cuties. Yeah I probably shouldn't of ate 3 but I did. Just curious how much is too much.
Oranges have a lot of sugar in them, so that could have been why you had the shakes from eating 3. When I have a cutie, I can not even finish one. I usually have 1/2 of a serving of fruit at one time. If I want more, I will have more later in the day, and I have never had a problem with the amount of sugar in them.
I've had 2 bananas today..i've been dealing with a stomach bug and have only wanted carbs..OH WELL! Life will go on..I've managed to get 80g of protein in but a whopping 125g of carbs on 1000 calories. In the end as long as I'm staying in my calorie budget I'm not going to stress over the carbs/sugar from a piece of fruit or two..it certainly wasn't the fruit that made me MO. =)
I eat one apple and one banana almost everyday...occassionally three pieces of fruit. I don't dump so I don't worry about the sugar in the fruit. I didn't start eating fruit until I was in maintenance, so I'm not sure if the carbs would have slowed down my weight loss or not.
Hi Strjen:
Fruit: Depends on how far out you are from surgery. My Bariatric books says to keep track of fruit and they prefer fruit packed in water, not fresh fruit because of the sugar. What happened after you ate 3 Cuties? I know they are small so that probably helped. I am only approved for banana's, pears and peaches. NOTHING with skin on it.
Now I have a question for you! Could you share with us a typical day in your food life that you can get 80-100 grams of protein down. That is something many of us struggle with. If I got 50 in a day I'd be dancing with joy. You must have a great routine to get down 80-100 grams. Please do share.
Take care,

My plan calls for fruit. 1-2 cups a day. I eat fruit at almost every meal. lately it's usually a banana, apple and strawberries. I have a cantaloupe in there calling my name though that I keep meaning to cut up. I just spread them out throughout the day and always eat them with protein.

As you are discovering - some of us get issue with fruits. A few months ago I decided to eliminate all fruits (that was after I eliminated sugars, grains and most starches) . The fruits were last things that caused my severe RH. I miss fruits - but even when I tried to eat them with proteins and fats - I still had issues with RH (reactive hypoglycemia).
You have to find out the safe level for you. It may be 1/2 serving, or 1...
