Steroids and RNY

RNY on 10/29/12

I have a short Achilles Tendon that is shredding, and I need surgery to repair it. I am in extreme pain, and was taking Motrin 800 for the pain and inflamation. I would occasionally get a cortizone shot, and prior to my surgery was on high doses of prednisone. I know I can not take the Motrin anymore, but was wondering if I can take steroids? I am afraid of the bloating and weight gain they can cause, and any other side effects that may develop from having RNY.

Both my Bariatric Surgeon and Podiatrist are out of the office for the holidays and won't be bac****ill Wednesday.

Yes, you can take steroids. It's NON steroids that cause a problem.

I have been told that steroids are fine but NSAIDS (non steroidal anti inflammatory) are not OK in any form.

Good luck,

I have taken them for limited periods with no problems. Hope you get some relief.

I've done them in bursts with no side effects.
