Kelly, will it be ok if I post this on Facebook in the wls group that I am in? I will give you the credit for it. I saw that people on there are taking gummies and saying that their doctor says it's ok.

Much needed vitamin post. I struggled with this yesterday, as my papers from my nutrionist tell me to try to get 18 mg of iron/day, but the vitamins they recommend (centrum silver) only contain 4 mg, and at 2 a day, that's only 8.

I'm 4 days pre op, so Iwanted to get everything set up for when I'm home, but I called all four nutritionists listed for my program and noone answered (big surprise)

I guess a multi with no iron and then iron separately would be my best bet. There was a liquid multivitamin I found at walmart, but I had never heard of it before so I wasn't sure if I should get it incase there were sugars or something that I wasn't seeing, since it wasn't listed on my recommended paper, I had to err on the side of caution.

Just FYI, the ASMBS says menstruating women should take 54-63 mg iron daily and everyone else should take 36 mg.  18 mg is not likely to be enough.

I am glad you posted this! My surgeon suggests 18-27 a day. I was just telling my husband last night that it doesnt seem like enough.

wow! That much iron? Outside of what we're eating? I will definitely need an iron supplement then. Thanks!

Yes, and many people actually find they need more than that, based on their labs.  I take 75 mg iron a day and I know many people that require more than me.

If you're seven months out, you should have had labs done recently, right?  What was your iron level?  Ferritin?  B12?
