Mental deficit after RNY?

My mind is pretty sharp still, I haven't noticed a deficiency, I am a systems analyst with a very demanding job, and I constantly try to challenge myself at work.

Had surgery in the middle of my semester of graduate school and finished with a 4.0. I hope what you say isn't true because I don't want to go from smart and fat to dumb and skinny!

My scattery-brain isn't any worse now than it was before surgery. It was already pretty pathetic. I'm extremely dependent on my Droid to remember things for me!

I do get monthly B12 shots, though, and I'm meticulous about getting all my vitamins in. (I have to have a routine or I'd forget them!)

I was the one who said I had to drop out of college because my memory and concentration got so bad. My three month labs show

Vitamin B1 (plasma) as 5

Vitamin  B12 as 1124

Vitamin B2 as 42

Vitamin B6 as 35.6

Vitamin D1 25-Dihydroxy as 67

I will be getting my 6 month labs next week. I am not sure how these numbers look. I know my B12 is good, but other than that, I am unsure.

Oh thank you for writing about memory loss and concentration problems.  I thought it was just ME !   Two months post-op now and for the last 4 weeks I've caught myself several times.  I cannot concentrate even enough to pay our household bills.  I had to turn that job over to my husband. I have forgotten appointments, missed meals, and now have to make myself note after note to stay on top of this.  I was so scared and didn't want anyone to know.  I used to read lot's of books and magazines and with rare exception I can't stay with reading more than 20 minutes.

I've had a B-12 shot and I think I'm up to snuff on vitamins.... but now that I know it could be metabolic related, I'll discuss it this week with my Doctor and Nutritionist.  Hope it is curable, because I hate to keep finding notes around the house or in my pocket saying:  Dust the living room, today you do washing, FEED the dog, fix husbands lunch box. etc;     Oh I pray it is a vitamin deficiency and not old age!

Thanks again for starting this thread, it really helped me.

If anyone finds an answer to this, let me know. I will be talking to my doctor tomorrow and will let you know what he says.

Sometimes I feel like I have ADD. Not sure if it's because I'm old or the RNY. I have trouble focusing sometimes, but it does not negatively impact my life or my job. My bf just likes to tease me about it, but maybe I'm just tuning him out...lol.

Edited to add: I just had extensive labwork done recently and all my levels are good.

I saw my surgeon today. He said he has never had this happen to one of his patients before. He wants me to talk to my primary doctor to see if he recommends an MRI. He believes it is caused by a vitamin deficiency. I had my lab work done and will know in a few weeks what my numbers are.
