Robotics Anyone?

My surgeon is just now getting into robotics it is new to Alaska.  I will get to talk to him this coming Wednesday to see if my surgery on 2/15 can be done that way.  Anyone here had that experience?  I have not read much about it yet, but have only seen good reviews so far.  Would love to hear from others who have had or know of this method for RNY.  My understanding is that it results in higher accuracy and less pain at the incision and a better/easier recovery....?

Thanks!

Hi! I had Robotic Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass on August 27, 2012. My surgeon was Dr. Sina Matin, it was done at Baylor Grapevine in Grapevine, Texas. The surgery itself took 45 minutes, the doctor said the longest part was setting up the robot. I had very little pain as a matter of fact my IV push pain medicine was taken away the very next day after surgery. I didn't need it. I went home and just took Tylenol. I still have my liquid Lortab in my cabinet. That being said, everyone is different. I was able to tolerate the pain in my opinion, it wasn't unbearable. Others may feel the pain was excruciating. My surgeon said I was his best yet. I was up walking around and hour after I was brought to my room. I went home the next morning. Again, everyone is different. Good luck :)

I had it done and it was pretty easy. I had five small incisions.

I am just home yesterday from Robotic surgery on Thursday. I have 5 small incisions and have taken no pain meds since surgery. My Dr is highly skilled in Robotics and has other surgeons from around the world coming to observe her. My surgery was complex because I have had two previous abdominal surgeries with many adhesions and she was concerned she would have to resort to open surgery. Highly recommend robotics if available.

I had never heard of robotic surgery except on science TV shows. When my surgeon told me she liked using the robot, I said Sure, why not? Just don't everybody go to lunch and leave the robot in charge!

I assume it went great. I had no complications, little or average pain, and have healed well. I'm not sure, but I think the five small incisions are the same for robotic and non-robotic laparoscopic surgery. I already had five itty bitty scars from gall bladder removal, so my abdomen is a fun connect the dots game.

Oh, I recall now there was one owie: My drain was clogged and the nurse stripped the gunk out of it. The pain was horrifying. Sickening. But it didn't last long, and that kind of thing can happen with any method of surgery. (If your drain gets clogged, make them give you a healthy dose of pain killers before they strip it.)
