Gum, any issues after surgery?

Hello,

Newbie here so thanks for the consideration if this question is bizarre. I'm almost through the pre-op insurance hoops and the program coordinator says expect to be scheduled for RNY surgery in March. I do like to chew gum and I'm not sure if that will be a problem after surgery since you are constantly swallowing saliva and the artificial sweetener flavor (clearly I wouldn't swallow the gum, that would just be silly!) For me, especially now, it's a way to keep my mouth busy...maybe I won't feel the need to do that after surgery?

Thanks,

Dania

I chew sugar free gum all the time with no trouble.
Good luck

I've been chewing sugar free gum since about 4 days post- op. I needed it because my breath smelled terrible.

If you swallow it you may block your stoma. Be careful.. :0)
