"So, what are you doing to lose the weight?"

Jeez,  I'm sorry your mom is not only being unsupportive but also saying so many critical, mean things, Amanda. Shake it off the best you can and keep chugging.

Oh I am used to it. She is always like this about everything. My husband and I just laugh about it later.

I rarely share about my surgery.  My medical history is nobody's business.  I am far enough post op now that there are a lot of people who have never seen me obese, especially since I am at a new job.  I kind of find it funny that they assume I have always been thin and don't understand their  pain of needing to watch what they eat.  I get comments all the time about how I must never eat, etc.  They do see that I don't partake in the office treats and when they ask I tell them I can't eat sugar.  I think they assume I am diabetic.

When people I know ask me how I lost weight I tell the the absolute truth.  I changed the way I eat and avoid refined carbs.  I didn't lose weight because I had surgery.  I lost weight because I changed how I eat.  The surgery helps me (a lot!) to eat better but I am the one who puts the food in my mouth.

LadyTazz I could not agree with you more. I have only shared my surgery details with only a few people. Mainly because I don't discuss other medical procedures I have had, why should this one be different. Those around me have noticed that I have drastically changed my eating habits and am much more active. I now run or cross country ski daily, which is something I would have never done in the past. A couple of people have asked if I am on a special diet plan and I honestly say, "Less intake, more active." The surgery was a tool to help get me started, I have to do the work on my own. I went to a local consignment shop yesterday and fit into a size 8 pair of skinny jeans (I giggled the whole time in the dressing room...did I buy them you ask? Heck yes!) Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever fit a size 8, much less "skinny jeans." My 16 year old daughter thought they were "too young" looking for me (she's just worried I might start raiding her closet haha!).
