I love massages!!

I got them both while obese and down almost 100 lbs.

Difference at 100 lbs down, I can feel her hand****ting my bones and it kinda hurts! LOL

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

I have had weekly massages for most of the last year, at my top weight of close to 300 pounds. There has never been an issue about my size. In fact, the massage therapist was the only person against WLS! Also know that massage therapists come in all shapes and sizes. You are mostly covered by a towel and they tuck it under you so your breasts and other private parts aren't exposed. I think it is a great reward!

When I was 294 lbs I was getting  brazilian laser hair removal treatments every 6 weeks. I had to get on my hands and knees while the tec did the back part- Doesn't get any more embarrasing than that!

People in service industries have seen it ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG.  It's a good thing that I have very little body hair because I would NOT be doing that, and certainly not when I was 300 pounds.  No way, no how!

I want those sooo badly!!! Are they worth it? I was thinking about treating myself to those when I reach my goal weight (I am still in pre op stages, though I completed all my testing and go this week to my PCP for my letter of Med Ness)!!!

I think so. I've had a brazilian, my underarms and my upper thighs done so far. In a couple of weeks I'll be starting my lower legs.

My skin type is ideal for laser. There is about 10-15 percent of hair that remains. It's very convenient.

I've been a registered massage therapist in Canada for over 17 years. I have to say that as concerned as you may be about any body parts.... It's all muscle to us by the time we finish school. We've had to undress and work on each other for over two years.

as many have mentioned you are between two sheets... Not covered with some face cloth sized towel like in the movies.

my reccomendation is to go somewhere where friends, family or co-workers have gone... So you know that the therapist is clean and professional.

Should you have concerns about sheets or table strength ... Mention them on the phone. You are always in control... Even before booking...ask questions... Keep on whatever clothing keeps you comfortable and let them know of any areas you want extra work on or don't want touched at all.

I am a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) in NY state. As has been stated, we are professionals and we see all types of bodies. When I am working on a client I am "seeing" them with my hands. I feel for tight muscles and knotted areas, where the muscle and tendons meet and when they "melt" with just the right amount of pressure.
One training exercise we did in school had us do a massage blindfolded, so we got an appreciation of just how much we can feel with our hands, and forearms and even elbows!
Where I work we have heated mattress pads on the tables, &I clients are draped with a sheet and blanket.

What an awesome idea for a 50lb lost reward!!!!   I haven't had a massage in about 2 years and reading this thread makes me desperately want to go!!!   I may reward myself  as well.  I just hit 70lbs down.

Do it!  They are so wonderful.  Like others I have had massages as a heavy (5'3", 255 lbs) and thin-ish person.  i have never felt bad about my weight, with men or women, and actually the male massage therapists I have worked with have really been wonderful and have helped me work through some old trauma around men.  I use massage therapy as a way to stay grounded in my new changing body.  it is really helpful.  The only thing I would say is, why wait until you are 50 pounds down, i would be going every single time I could afford it!!!!  I get my doc to write a script for massage therapy so I can use my flex spending account to cover it.
