I just bought 27 mg of Iron :  as ferrous sulfate.  Is this the right stuff and should I take two a day?  Thank you!  Allison

I don't like ferrous sulfate because it usually causes  horrible constipation.  We also absorb carbonyl iron better, but you may absorb the ferrous sulfate well enough.

I'm guessing it has 27 mg elemental iron in it?  The ASMBS says menstruating women need 54-63 mg elemental iron a day and everyone else needs 36 mg elemental iron a day.  So you'd need two or three of those.

My surgeon put me on a prescription iron supplement, ferocon, to save money and benefit from a prescription plan.  It's 300-325 mg of iron daily, among other things.
