Pain so nervous
I will be thinking about you!
The amount of pain varies from person to person, but I will say that for me, it was quite bearable. In the hospital I had a morphine pump and could push a button anytime I wanted more. I would say I had some discomfort but not real pain. I had a little more pain when I first went home because I no longer had the morphine, but I had Vicodin and that worked pretty well. I was uncomfortable for the first couple of weeks, but it was very tolerable.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
If you are having laparoscopic surgery, the pain will be MUCH less than for an open procedure. I have had a number of surgeries of both kinds, and the pain from the lap surgeries was minimal after about Day Three (and you will be given narcotics to make it quite bearable). Don't stress so much about it... You will be fine.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I had my surgery 3 weeks ago. I had some pain when they had me in post op, but that was from the anesthesia leaving my body. As much as it sucks take deep breaths with your mouth and blow it out. Do that as soon as you wake up so your o2 stats will stay high enough for them to move you to your room.
When you hurt ask for pain meds, right out of surgery they will give you some, Then after I had to ask for more. The IV meds were every 2 hours which sucked as it always seems my nurse was busy, so I asked if there was something that lasted longer. So they switched me to liquid vicodin, that was 4-6 hours. If you stay on the meds it will help your soft muscles to relax more so your body can heal.
When they get you up at 4 hours, walk as tall as you can. Hunched over will be miserable for you later on. I had a system that worked well for me. I would take my pain meds and go to sleep. When anyone woke me up ( regardless of time) I would go walking. It got really easy for me, I probably overdid it a slight bit, but It was fun watching how much easier it was for me as the 2 days progressed. Popsicles were my favorite thing, it cooled the inside of the pouch which helps me.
At home it was miserable because nobody was there with me. I had to care for myself during the work hours. I ended up setting alarms on when to eat, take pain meds, vitamins, drink water etc. Take it one day at a time, it will get better!
Good Luck
