For the African American Women for hair loss!!
Hi, I am 3 months out and i was wondering what you are doing with your hair loss?????....... Honeslty mine haven't started and i pray that it won't..... But i am going to keep my hair braided, because every black female knows that when you have braids in your head for at least 2 months... You will loose hair... when you take the braids out....
So my conclusion to all this hair loss panic mode...... is sew ins and braids .....because you will never know how much hair you are actually loosing if you keep your hair braided.... Its not noticeable when you have braids because even before you had surgery you lost hair when you took your braids out (Im just saying) And plus i take biotin every day and i also use keratin products on my hair
I'm at 4 months and have done nothing. I just take my vitamins and stick to high protein diet. My hair is extremely thick and curly shoulder length when curly to my breast when flat ironed. I don't see much more hair loss then normal (average person loses 100 strands a week or more). I will let you know if my hair dresser notice any less hair. I am ok since I know it will grow back my brother is a hair dresser and a teacher at a hair school so I will ask him best products to use if I notice a lot of hair loss? I will take hair loss over being heavy any day. I only wash and deep condition my hair every 5-8 days and completely detangle. My hair broke off years ago from a bad relaxer (I since went all natural) it took 2 years to grow about 10 inches,
You are in the right track. I prepared by refusing to perm it as soon as I made the WLS decision. Went to braids (goddess) before and removed them about 6 weeks post op. Then I went back to flat ironing once every 10-14 days. Got regular conditioners with the stylist and things were going pretty well. Then in month 7, it started coming out by the handfulls. It was so depressing I couldn't take it.
I went back to the braids, then did sew ins and braids for the next couple of years. It was actually pretty cheap and liw maintenance. Finally a few months ago I decided to go back to the stylist to evaluate. My hair was longer than it had ever been, but much thinner. I am happy with it now as it does seem to be getting thicker, although the front is too thin for even a partial bang. I continue to take biotin daily. (I think it would be much thicker if I was younger).
Just hang in there and do what you need to do to live with it. It will probably grow back but once it starts to fall out, there's not much you can do. However, not everyone has the same experience. I tried to make myself feel better by saying I could buy some hair but I could never purchase the great health I am experiencing now. I hope this helps.
I still perm my hair but i keep it braided at all times..... I perm it and let it breath for about two weeks and then i go back to the braids and i let it stay in for about two months and then i start the process all over again............However you said you lost hair in the 7 month? i thought people loose hair in the 3 and 4th month
I decided no more chemicals. I just don't want to take the risk of going back to that. I might wind up with nothing. Glad yours is doing well at this point. I think I will be various forms of "natural" for life.
Most people lose earlier than month 7. That's why I thought I had escaped the dreaded issue. That was not to be. Goes to show that no two people are alike.
Be careful with the extra biotin--it can increase hair growth in other places ![]()
I have mixed hair, and it seemed like I was losing hair, but it didn't last long. I kept up with my protein and vitamins, so that seems to have helped. I also cut my hair shorter in preparation for surgery, so that makes the hair loss minimal, too.
I'm a few days from being 2 months post op. I have been doing micros probably since about 4 months before surgery and will continue to at least until around 6 or 7 months post op. I considered your theory of not noticing the hair loss with braids but then I thought maybe the whole braid could come out if I lost enough hair within the one braid. We'll see but braids seem to be a good idea either way as I'm natural and I go to the gym regularly. I want to wear my hair straight but that's not a good plan since I workout. I'm tired of wearing my hair curly so braids it is. Good Luck!
I am 20 months out and I wear wigs! Boy I never thought I'd wear a wig, but it has proven to be a wonderful transformation for me. Most people don't even recognized me. I can wear so many different styles, and some other women at my church have even started to wear them too.
Experiment and have fun!!
Oh, and I don't add any chemicals to my natural hair anymore and I wash, condition and keep it braided. It's longer and healthier!!
