Ok so I'm wanting to get started for real this time on a walking routine & need some opinions on good walking shoes. I am flat footed & have no arches. What have you all found to be good walking shoes?

When i went to the foot doctor, he said that New Balance as about the best sneakers available.  I've had them ever since and love every paid I get!  lightweight and good support.  I also have flat feet, but have orthotics.  Still love them!  I also have a few pairs of Dansko's but I don't walk long distances in them. They are good for every day and work.

I love New Balance. My Orthopedic Doc said the higher the number on the shoe, the better!

My podiatrist and physical therapist both recommended New Balance. I've worn them for years and they are great.

I love my Brooks!! I can't wear anything other than them!!  I went to a store that help fit me for the shoe that worked best for my walk.

Had these same issues for years.  Both Brooks and New Balance are great shoes.  I like the Brooks Ariel and the New Balance 840 or 1012.  All are for over pronaters with flat feet who need maximum stability.  And they come in wides.

I love walking. I do at least a half marathon every year. When I first got serious about walking, I went to our local running store. To me, this is essential - not just to pick up shoes at the mall. Go where they know how to fit you properly =)  I swear by New Balance as well.

Go to a real shoe store and get fitted for a pair of new balance. I have flat , wide feet and MS and they work great!

It really is personal opinion.   Ever since my back surgery years ago I have had a hard time with all shoes, especially walking shoes which I needed because my husband and I both had our own Precor treadmills.  I had orthotics made, couldn't wear, killed my back.  I am an under pronator and the only shoe I buy is the Nike air until this week.  I found a Nike trail shoe that are so comfortable.  My husband always bought New Balance because he is over pronator and they work out best for him.  Good luck, find what is comfortable for you.

Why didn`t the orthotics work? Were they custom made?    How does one know if they are an under pronator or over pronator?
