I didnt come out of recovery til 3 hours after my the surgeon talked to my husband and told him all went well. he kept asking after hrs had past and they said they were working on pain control  (of course i have  no recollection) but then we got in the room and i rememeber the nurse in recovery tell me they had to give me albuterol, so i asked her my room with my husbandand she said yes, but didnt say why, really, just that I had a harder time. im feeling very worried as if i have ot have to have another surgery i want to know if im at risk. my surgeon is very aloof and shes not easy talk to ( i chose her becasue she is very good surgery wise in her field) but im going ot ask her about my report and if she wont tell me anything or brushes me off , my sis whose a nurse said to request a copy. thoughts?

I don't see why they wouldn't tell you why they gave you albuterol. :(  Maybe you had a reaction to something during surgery and started having trouble breathing.  Are they continuing to give it to you?

You can request a copy of any of your medical records.  However, I'd be surprised and concerned if your surgeon will not tell you why you were given a particular medication.  If she refuses to tell you, I would file a complaint with the state medical board, because legally she is required to tell you something like that.  But like I said, it would be really surprising if she refuses to answer a direct question like that.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

no it was just in recovery and that was it never brought up again. Looking back the experince wasnt what i had hoped. I felt the nurses and anethesiologist  team were gruff and abrupt. I never felt "cared for" or sympathized with just a hurry up and go to sleep thing. I wanna put it behind me but it keeps popping into my head and i do wanna know for future surgeries( hope there is  none).

thansk

I have my surgery report and see no reason why you shouldn't request yours - even if they DO give you an explanation as to what happened.

I received three albuterol treatments after surgery. They said it was just to help open up the lungs so that I could breathe deeper and better. My surgeon gives it to all his patients after surgery.

Albuterol helps keep the air ways open. Remember to use your breathing exercise gadget. It will help prevent pneumonia as well as the help from the albuterol
