Not sure if anyone else watches it but I picked up on it mid-season 2 and jus****ched the most recent (finale) episode of season 3. OMG! Nooooooooo.......! Anyone else totally disappointed in how it ended? Anyone else think Mary's going to become a bitter pill?

It's the one part of my culture I hold on to - I looooove British period drama!!!
I made all my FB friends promise no spoilers and they stuck to it, bless them as this episode was shown at Christmas over there! Apparently "Matthew" had made it known he wasn't re-signing for season 4 and so they were all guessing he would be involved in a hunting accident - Julian Fellowes obviously fooled them LOL!!!
Dame Maggie Smith is my favourite character as the Lady Dowager - pure class! There is now speculation as to whether Mary will have a little fling with Tom - I don't think the family could cope with two daughters and the chauffeur though LOL!

Yeah, I don't see the Tom thing. Mary'd just not be progressive enough for that. There's gotta be a new character for her, but I just hope it's someone who shapes her for the good, like Matthew did. The meanness that comes out between her and Edith needs to get curtailed or I may end up hating her! Pity, though, both she and Tom are widdowed with little ones.....

I LOVE Downton Abbey! I was totally shocked by the ending. I have friends in the UK, and they did a good job of not spoiling anything. I read an interview with the creator of the series today. He stated that they knew Dan Stevens would not be returning to the role, but because of all the wonderful history and love between Mary and Matthew, they did not want to see anything come between them, so death was the only answer. I understand their reasoning, but I'm still upset.
