Wellbutrin
I have bipolar II and have been on 100 mg wellbutrin and 200 mg lamictal for the past year now. Prior to that I was on geodon and gained 30 lbs, ick. The wellbutrin/lamictal combo has been the absolute best treatment for me to date. It doesn't make me tired either like a lot of my other anti-depressants did, so I really appreciate that.

I've been on Wellbutrin 100 mg for about 6 weeks...along with Risperdal and Topamax. I'm bipolar and suffer with anxiety. Since surgery, I've been down in the dumps and sleeping a lot!! Once Wellbutrin got into my system, I've felt more energy, and I'm staying up throughout the day. It also doesn't have any sexual side effects (which Prozac did for me). So far so good for me!!
I was put on Welbutrin a little bit after my surgery and the person above is right. First antidepressant that I've ever been on (and I've been on a lot) that didn't make me gain weight or lose my sex drive. My doctor just upped my dose because I was still experiencing episodes of fatigue and they have been practically nonexistent since then. This is about the longest I've been able to take a medication that it hasn't stopped being effective. I take it with Cymbalta and I finally have some relief from my treatment resistant depression that I have suffered with for years. I hope it continues to keep working for me.

FWIW, many people find that Wellbutrin does absolutely nothing, regardless of whether it is taken alone or added to an existing antidepressant. Most of my clients who have tried it have moved on to other medications.
Personally, I tried it added to Zoloft and it made no difference whatsoever. Switching to Lexapro was a much better solution for me.

I tried it because I had gained weight on Celexa (an ssri). The wellbutrin wasn't working well for me so I switched doctors to get another opinion. He explained that I am a classic "worrywart" so I really have "generalized anxiety disorder" more than depression so Wellbutrin wasn't what I really needed. I need something to work on my serotonin levels. So he switched me to Pristiq, which has been totally weight neutral for me.
He recently switched me to Effexor (very similar to Pristiq-they are both snri's) since Pristiq is only available in extended-release form (extended release doesn't always work so well in the pouch). So for me-wellbutrin didn't work well. It may have worked well in combination with something else. BUT I will say this-I lost about 5 pounds in one month with absolutely no effort on my part so that was nice!!
I have a friend who is on it and it is just perfect for him!! So it really varies from person to person. I was hoping it would work for me.
I am pre-op, btw.
Good luck!!
Pam :)
