1 year out & measuring food
Just curious at a year out should I be shooting for a cup of food per meal? My surgeon told me I should measure out 1/2 a cup & leave it at that per meal. I'm not sure that I agree with that. Those of you who are 1yr + are you still measuring your food? I am getting between 1200-1400 cals a day & anywhere between 75-100g of protein & 70-80 oz of water. Here is what I had for dinner tonight. 1/2c. tomato soup made with a 1/4c. of milk & half of a multi grain w/flax seed flatout grilled cheese. Do you think this is too much for a meal?
You must be eating the soup first? So really the only solid is the sandwich portion and that looks about a half a cup? I still measure 1/2 cup for really solid food or else I end up uncomfortable if I eat too much, but things like an orange, or melon, I can eat a cup of at one sitting. I eat about 1700 to 2000 calories a day, and aim for 100g protein and I'm exactly 13 months post op. I think it really depends on the food with respect to portion size I find, but I do still measure as well.

Unless you are eating high calorie foods (which I assume you are not), I don't see how it is possible for anyone to get enough nutrition in if they eat only half a cup of food per meal.
Liquids, whi*****lude soup, go straight through the pouch so will not do anything to help fill you up, so there is no point in counting it in terms of volume of food. (You did drink/eat the soup before the sandwich, right??)
I never measured food at all, even very early out, but generally people whose surgeons do have them measure food talk about a cup or more by a year out.

Thanks ladies. I do eat the soup first. I don't eat soup often. Actually this is the 2nd time in a year that I've even had soup. Just something different. Lora I agree, I think 1/2c is rediculous. I had gotten away from measuring the past couple of months but have gone back to it recently just because I know I need to. I tried the half cup thing for a little while but it just wasn't enough. I'm now doing 3/4 c. to a cup depending on what it is. If it's my homemade veg beef soup its 3/4c to a cup same for pintos. I know dense proteins I can only handle like 3oz before my nose starts running or I hiccup. I guess I have to play around with it again & see where I need to be. I did last night make me a schedule for eating so I don't just eat when I feel like it. I do better with schedules than when I'm at home & can just eat whatever whenever. Right now I'm losing about half a pound to a pound per week. Some weeks I just stay the same or flucuate a half a pound to a pound. I have recently started going to the gym & walking & will start incorporating some weights & maybe some of their classes to see if this will help move things a little more & also to strengthen my muscles. Thanks again ladies for taking the time to read my post & respond.
i think your meal looked perfect. At this point, I think you should be looking for cues from your body as to how much is enough and stopping before you eat too much. If you are still trying to lose, I think measuring is important to track calories. We have a tendency to fool ourselves into thinking a serving is larger than it actually is.
