Mexicali Losers Bench (long)
Had my RNY done yesterday, and I don't think it was any worse than my hysterectomy. We arrived on Mexicali on Monday afternoon, after winding fast trip from San Diego. i highly recommend dramamine if you are at all prone to motion sickness. On arrival i had labs, X-ray and EKG, spoke with Doctors Aceves and Campo then they brought us to the Lucerna Hotel. The hotel was nice, beds were clean and the steakhouse restaurant was amazing. Order the Caesar salad, if only for the entertainment of watching them create the dressing. The salad was so yummy we skipped dessert. Go figure, last chance for chocolate cake in at least a long while and I passed it up for the salad. No regrets though. The only prep was a PO antibiotic and Ativan and I slept all night. The driver picked us up on Tuesday am at 7am to finish up the preop, got my IV, then sat around and waited for the first case to complete while waiting fir the versed to lick in.Then I moved to the stretcher and the last thing I remember is waking up in the recovery room. I got up to pee right away, even before going onto my bed. Morphine, zofram and walking often are keeping me reasonably comfortable. The nice thing is to get to the bathroom, I literally walk 5 steps. Ed just got back from breakfast and he says he had eggs with chorizo and it was yummy. So, if anyone is wondering about the cafeteria food at Almater Hospital, he give it a thumbs up. I'll be here for four more days. They did the initial leak test in the OR, I drink the methylene blue tomorrow and then on Friday, they take the drain out and I can start with more than sips of water. Saturday am, they do a barium swallow to visualize the new pouch and I can opt to stay here or we can go back to the hotel where Dr. Aceves will check on me before we leave for San Diego. Overall impressions is that everyone here is very nice and as many have mentioned before, very clean as expected. The best thing I did was download a free translator to my phone and iPad because, despite what I thought i was speaking in pacu, I do not speak fluent Spanish.
