What happens if...

Yep. This. And your heart is a muscle. It could cause heart problems. plus it could totally screw up your metabolism. So even if your organs are not damaged, the likelihood of getting to goal and staying there would be slim. Find a way to get more protein in your system.

If you're that far out and still only getting about 1/4 to 1/3 of the protein you need, I would be really concerned.

What if we don’t get enough protein?

Here are some of the more common symptoms.

  • Edema - A collection of fluid under the skin, which most commonly affects the legs, feet, and ankles, but can occur anywhere on the body.
  • Thinning or brittle hair, hair loss
  • Ridges or deep lines in finger and toe nails
  • Skin becomes very light, burns easily in the sun
  • Reduced pigmentation in the hair on scalp and body
  • Skin rashes, dryness, flakiness
  • General weakness and lethargy
  • Muscle soreness and weakness, cramps
  • Slowness in healing wounds, cuts, scrapes, and bruises
  • Bedsores and other skin ulcers
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Headache
  • Nausea and stomach pain
  • Fainting
  • Depressed immune system, increase susceptibility to infection and illness
  • Loss of  muscle tissue
  • Heart damage (eventually)
  • Crankiness, moodiness
  • Severe depression
  • Anxiety
  • Lack of energy, no desire to do things

Aren't you feeling awful by now?  How much hair are you losing?  Have you had labs done?    I know it can take a while to start getting all your protein in, but by four months out, you should be at least close.

To be honest I normaly due feel like crap but thats bc I work 3rd shift full time go to school full time and try to have a life. That was even before surgery. So nothing has change there, I'm a light sleeper and everyone wakes me up in this house. I haven't lost any hair at all. Just the normal amount I lose when I dye it. I had labs done at 2 months and everything was high(the good high) beside for my blood persure as it is droping..last check it was 104/58. If I could eat more then 1/2 a cup without getting sick I think I would be there. I dont ear bread, rice, pasta, or sugar. I don't ear veggies or fruit bc my main focues is protein. I dont think I even got 60 grams of protein in before surgery but that was bc of bad food chocies.

Can you change your schedule? Something's got to give! You should have at least a half hour for lunch! Isn't that the law? I would talk to your supervisor, tell them that your health is at risk and you need breaks. Then plan ahead and bring leftovers from dinner the night before. That way you will get in more protein. Dint take no for an answer! No breaks, that's not right! Good luck

My suggestions:

-Keep nuts to snack on during your breaks as well as beef or turkey jerky.

-Find some unflavored protein powder that you can add to soups or sauces or anything else you can blend it into.

-Investigate Eggface blog for ideas, and also look at low carb message boards, which are full of high protein recipes

-Hummus and tuna are decent sources of protein. You can use carrots or celery to dip.

-Add cottage cheese to anything you can think of, like scrambled eggs or ground meat.  Use plain greek yogurt to sub for sour cream.

-I've been sipping on isopure grape mixed with propel water in grape frost flavor.  It's like a protein water.

I keep hearing "I can't" and "I don't like" and not hearing "Thanks, I will try that". 20 grams of protein can come from 4 ounces of one protein shake so my opinion is that you aren't trying very hard. You are almost 4 months out and getting 20-30 grams of protein a day and you are 'thinking' about calling your NUT?? Why didn't you call 2 months ago? The biggest muscle in your body is your heart....when you don't get enough protein your body takes it away from muscle=heart damage. You need to stop making excuses and find a way to do it blush. Nobody made you have this surgery.

I think that you need to go back and really read Cajungirl's post because it was written for you.

I understand that you don't like protein shakes how about trying nectars.  Matrix makes some that are like drinking crystal light.  Thay do not leave you with that full feeling.  Check out vitamin shoppe for single servings to try.  My favorite is fuzzy navel.  This will help you get both protein and fluids in.  Everything (labs and such) may be fine but those are based on your body stores once those are gone other problems will occur.  Treat now!
