Rant- So Mad!
So I went today to get a heart clearance for surgery. I thought it was just going to be an appointment where the doctor ran a few tests, listened to my heart etc. Well to my unpleasant surprise that's NOT what happened. I was criticized my whole appointment for choosing to take the last and final route to getting surgery. I was told that I was going to gain the weight back after surgery and that it was my fault I've gained so much weight. He went on to tell me how to lose weight (Like I haven't already tried) and tells me he strongly suggests I cancel my surgery. I wanted to tell him so bad but I was raised to be a lady, so I politely said that I appreciated the concern but no one was changing my mind. The ONLY thing he done the whole appointment was listened to my heart and now I have to go back to him after my heart echo.. Definitely not looking forward to that!
THAT experience is what motivates me to prove people like him WRONG!
I will NOT gain the weight back, I WILL change my eating habits and I WILL go visit him again in 2-3 years to show him how AWESOME I am doing!
Okay, rant over. Thanks for reading..
I"m glad you stood up to him. When you go back, if he says anything about gaining weight after surgery or not needing surgery, I would just tell him "That's not what I'm here to discuss. I'm here to discuss the results of my echo." You don't have to listen to him talk about your choice to have surgery.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
Agree with Kelly. That was completely out of line. We tend to forget that we do NOT work for doctors. They are paid to work for us. That being said, they sometimes hold the key to what we want, as this one does for you. It's amazing that he's trying to talk you out of a lifesaving procedure. Good luck and DEFINITELY go back there one day and tell all the patients in his waiting room to change their minds and cancel their appointments with him and go to another doctor! :)
He didn't refer me to him, I just went to him so I didn't have to drive 3 hours. My doctor referred me to someone else, so maybe I am at fault for not going to someone who is familiar with the surgery.I guess I just have to thicken my skin and learn to take what are to me insults without getting furious, and knowing that there are some extremely closed minded souls out there. Thanks for replying!!
I am SO glad he's not my PCP. He was very excited about my surgery and told me he would approve it any day for me and was telling me how much better I will feel after surgery. Needless to say, this was a hospital doctor that was only there a few days out of the week and rotates with a different doctor. Some people have nerve! Not trying to speak on anyones vocabulary or make fun of anyone but when he was writing what he considered to be my "diet plan" he didn't even spell 50% of the words correctly.. What kind of doctor is this? I will be so glad after the 21st when I never have to see him again. I am glad I kept my composure because if it wasn't for the sake of my surgery a few choice words probably would've been said without control. I know this surgery is a whole lifestyle change, that's why I chose to pursue it. Some people are so misunderstanding. I know one thing though, after my surgery, I will never return to him. Thanks for all of your kind words, you guys always seem to cheer me up! I hope you all have a wonderful day!
Remember what you just said and do it. I live that every single day of my life, I will give no one ever the satisfaction of saying I couldn't keep the weight off or make the surgery work, or that I failed or any of the other crappy things that could be said if I regained my weight. I know we are supposed to do everything for positive reasons but for me I prefer to stay a size 6 just to spite a few people and to thrill a few others.
