I was wondering if it is just as easy to gain weight after you hit goal as before RNY surgery ? What I mean is, I understand you always have to work at it to maintain, but, is it a bit easier to not gain weight, than say someone who has a full size stomach ?? (assuming you've not stretched out the pouch)

I think it's at least close to as easy to gain weight after surgery.  True, I can't eat nearly the volume of food I used to be able to eat.  But it's still easy to get too many calories, depending on my food choices.

I gained 20 lbs. before I knew it after reaching my goal. BE CAREFUL to hold yourself accountable by taking vitamins, drinking water, eating high protein, and exercising even after reaching goal (which I did not do).  I do not ever know what hungry or full feels like. I just eat to stay alive and evidently ate for comfort since nothing bothers me.

I will get it back off though. This forum has sent me many encouragers.

For the first 4 yrs it was easy, now only thoughtful eating keeps me at goal, and my determination to never **** it up and be the subject of regain gossip.

Don't let the pouch fool you, The weight gain causing foods like potato chips, bread, and cookies, crackers go down really easy and turn to mush "sliding" right through that stoma so you can eat a lot of it before you even realize it. If you are not monitoring your diet, after so many years, the weight will pack back  on with little effort.  My best advice is to count every bite you take, and never stop. Conscience eating is a must for long term success, as is taking your vitamins, drinking your water, and moving off the couch.

Believe me I am not the first one to sign up for a zumba class or anything, but inactivity will catch up with you and make it difficult to stay at goal.  I hate to exercise so I try and do things during the day like only taking the stairs, walking for at least 30 min after work every day, and when I cant do any of that, I use the dreaded exercise tapes.  Even though I don't enjoy exercising, it's far far better than being MO again.

Best Wishes to you!

Six months ago I would have said no way!  Now that I am almost four years out and have allowed poor food choices back in my life I am gaining and at a staggering pace (almost 25 pounds in two months....) so yes, you can put weight back on even if you can't eat a giant plate of food or whole pizza at a sitting anymore.

20 pounds lost during two week pre-op diet.
