HELP!!! I am Day #4 PostOp and I feel HORRIBLE!

I am really having a heck of a time and starting to doubt my decision to have surgery.  I had surgery on Friday (3/8) and was discharged on Sunday (3/10).  Though I was prescribed Loratab (15ml every 4hrs) I am in incredible amount of pain.  This pain is primarily on the left side of my abdomen where the "large incision" is located.  There is no redness, swelling or drainage in any of my incisions but the pain is incredible.  I have also not had a bowel movement since the night before my surgery (5 days now) and despite taking milk of mag (absolutely disgusting).  I have relieved some gas here and there but nothing that has relieved pressure or pain.  I am at a loss.  I have called my surgeon's nurse numerous times and I feel I am not being taken to seriously.  Finally, though I am physically not hungry (cannot even think to stomach anything protein) I am seriously hungry!  These food commericials,  or jus****ching my husband make dinner for he and the kids has become unbearable.

Any words of advice?  Any OTC meds that will help me make a bowel movement?  HELP!  I am in physical and mental dispair!!!

Have you tried any of the suppositories?  Like Dulcolax?  Also there is simethicone for gas.  But be sure you are walking to help get stuff moving.

I have not tried suppositories as I cannot give them to myself and at this point, too embarrassed to have my husband administered them to me.  I can barely walk because I am keeled over in pain anytime I am standing.  I cannot even sleep in my bed because lying down or sitting up causes me to scream out in pain.  I want to be active and I have tried several times but I am seriously in too much pain!   Finally, I tried the GasX dissolvable strips but the nurse told me not to use them again because I actually need to expel gas at this stage on my own.  I just dont know anymore.

Just walking to the bathroom or around the bed is better then nothing. It will get better.

As far as them telling not to take the Gasx, they have no clue. Take it. That was one of those things that my surgeon had on his list of things to bring to hospital.

I couldnt stand up straight for a few days. It felt like it was pulling to much.

Gas x Strips, warm liquids, get up and move around. Take your meds as often as you can. If you do the MoM take a dose, if nothing happens take another dose 2 hours later. You can also as the person above me suggested. Drink your fluids, eat popsicles, jello, Broth.

For me the gas x, and warm SF hot cocoa was the best help.

You have received lots of solid advice about most of the issues you mentioned.  I just wanted to add that I slept in my recliner for almost a week because it was too painful to lie flat or roll over in my bed.  From what I've read, it's pretty common.  Will keep you in my thoughts and hope for speedy relief.  It does get better and for me, it was worth it.

Call your surgeon's office and tell them you want them to call in a script for something stronger for pain.  Be insistent if you need to be.

A Dulcolax suppository will have you pooping in less than one hour.  Then you can take Miralax daily to prevent future problems.

I was also feeling a lot of pain after my surgery. After reading other posts - I thought, what the heck is wrong with ME!! I took Miralax for the BM's and did not miss a dose of pain meds. I had all I could do to walk the length of my house, and it is a ranch! I feel for you, it sucks! Try to take frequent little walks if you can and stay standing for as long as you can tolerate. It seemed to help. I also sipped Unjury chicken broth - cold stuff did not work for me post op. Good luck, I will be out here cheering you on!

Try miralax. It took me five days to have a BM and I am on say 7 an no more BM

Try supporting yourself with pillows. I guess I was lucky day 4 I was at tee ball camp an shopping. In the hospital my doctor put me on pill pain medication to see if I could tolerate before discharge. I have no need for pain meds.

Try lots if pillows

You should not be in so much pain, go to the hospital that you had your surgery at. This is nothing to play around with. I experienced pain 2 days aftet being home and ended up in emergency surgery with a leak and an abcess so please dont disregard the pain even if it is constipation.
I wish u all the best.
