Phys. Evaluation
My Psch eval consisted of two appointments. The 1st was me and the doc talking for about an hour. The next was an MMPI-2 test and some other small test. Well, not really a test, but a questionaire. The MMPI-2 is 567 true/false questions. They essentially ask you many questions in different ways. For example something like: I am answering these questions in a manner to make myself appear to be something I am not (t/f) I am purposely answering questions incorrectly (t/f) I am lying when I answer most of these questions (t/f).
I'm not sure what the other test was actually called, but it was like a little less than 200 questions. More crazy stuff. I think one was like: I have flown to the west coast more than 26 times this year (t/f). What the heck!!
Anyway, from what I gather the MMPI-2 test is kind of like a lie detector. It's very difficult to keep answering questions that are similar if your answer needs to be or is a lie. At some point you'll forget your lie or whatever. A lot of public safety people take these. I'm pretty sure if you have to take this, that if you just answer the questions truthfully you will do fine. I think the doc just wants to know if you're overly depressed, or crazy, or whatever.
You'll be fine. It's funny that I say that because I was posting about the same thing you did and people kept telling me I'd be fine but I was still nervous.

I always find it odd when people are routinely given the MMPI as part of their pre-op Psych eval. It tests for Personality Disorders (it is not a lie detector, but does include various kinds of checks for consistency in answers to detect cases where people are trying to downplay certain traits or are trying to answer the questions so as to make themselves look better; it also helps eliminate potentially invalid responses due to the way a particular question was worded). it tests for things like depression (but is somewhat unreliable on that one, depending on the source/type of depression), whether you are schizophrenic, are a hypochondriac, or have a significant level of paranoia. Only a small number of people will have results that are "positive" for anything other than depression (and maybe not even for that). We give the MMPI only when Howe ave reason to suspect that there is something it may reveal.
