In the beginning right after surgery, I had a horrible high sense of smell.  Every now and then if my husband is cooking something, I will sometimes get sick to my stomach, almost a nauseated feeling.  Only has happened a few times over the months, I just find it odd that it still can rear its ugly head up when the pouch gets a wiff of something it doesn't like. devil

This is one of the more significant side effects that I've had.  It's not limited to food,, there are scented soaps and lotions that I've had to let go!!!

For about 3 months I had to quit using scented laundry soap, body wash, shampoo, lotion, perfume you name it.  I couldn't even feed the cats canned cat food without having to leave the familyroom and go to the bedroom.  It was terrible!  So when you said that I was like holy mackerel! I am not the only one to experience non-food items.  I asked my husband to not to use after shave or cologne either.  Anything with a smell did me in.  It was like being a werewolf with this heightened sense of smell!  Thank goodness I am back using all those products now.  It's mainly the food issue.

I got that, too. It's not as bad as right after surgery, but it does happen.

I'm still like it - the worst is BACON!!!   I will eat it at someone else's place, but can't cook it at home because I swear I can smell it for days afterwards - my family think I am nutz!  (maybe that's NOT just the bacon thing kiss)

See, that's the problem.  I won't lose the smell for days either.  He was cooking something last night for himself that he had added parmesan cheese to.  Well, he agreed, he used way too much, and the nice person that I am, I said "I hope you throw it up because I can't and it's making me sick."  I opened the house and went and sat on the back porch until I felt I could come back in.  He would have said the nutzo part has been an ongoing issue for me way long before surgery.  Sigh......the perils of insanity.  You gotta love us!

So weird but my sense of smell is affected too.    I swear if something smells good I want to inhale it.   Since surgery, I love looking and smelling other peoples food!   Guess we all had the insanity insertion with the bypass.   LOL
