Salads

Well I will be 2 years post op April 12, and for awhile I was not following my diet correctly. Didn't impact my weight but of course didn't help it any either. Not that I was eating things I really shouldn't just not putting protein first or getting in all my protein for that matter. Anyway, for a couple weeks now I have been back on track. Back in October I had my gallbladder out by my surgeon who did my gastric bypass. Long story short my visit with him to schedule my gall bladder surgery, he was asking what kind of foods was irritating me etc. I had mentioned that it was mostly acid foots, tomatoes, orange juice when I would have a few sips, grapefruit etc. I said I eat a lot of salad and love tomatoes and it was usually the tomatoes that I felt some pain(still unsure if this was due to gall bladder but it has resolved after removing it to say the least) Anyway, he told me to stay away from the fruits, tomatoes etc that I shouldn't be eating that to begin with.  Anyone elses surgeons tell them that? I love fruits and vegetables and eat  a lot of salad, but it has a lot of protein in it. I put in chicken or turkey, cheddar cheese or cut up cheese sticks, almonds or anything else I choose to add with protein. I don't see that being "unhealthy" so I'm just curious those of you who are far out from surgery, do you eat salads (or fruits) on a daily basis?

My doctor says salads can come in later on. But always protein first. And that doesnt mean protein mixed into a salad. That means I eat my cheese, almonds and chicken first, then if I have room I can have a salad. I am pretty sure that is standard for most plans. Salads arent out, just last. Definitely not as a meal.

I eat salad as a side dish, like vegetables because I always make protein the focus.

I eat fruit maybe once or twice a week at most - I really don't need the sugar because I am diabetic.  I NEVER drink fruit juices (not even a few sips) as they would make me sick, and they have little nutritional value on my eating plan ...

I can eat salad, but as others have said, protein first. If it has meat, it can be my meal, but I pick the meat out of it first to make sure I get the protein.
