3 Year Surgiversary (March 22, 2010 to March 22, 2013)
Since the middle of March 2013, I now eat 1800 calories a day to maintain my weight loss of 190 pounds at a weight of 141 pounds (this is my original goal weight that I chose in the very beginning of my journey when I was 331 pounds). My height is 5'4". I am now 58 years young.
I was eating 2000 calories a day from the end of May 2012 at 134 pounds to the middle of March 2013 at 141 pounds. I have gained 7 pounds. I do not consider this “Bounce Back Weight” since I chose to do this.
I last weighed myself in the beginning of September 2012 and I was 134 pounds at that time. I figure my malabsorption of calories began to come to an end in January 2013 when I noticed my jeans were a little snugger in the abdomen/hip area. I increased 2 inches in my waist and 2 inches in my hips with my 7 pound weight gain.
I weighed myself yesterday, March 21st after a self-imposed hiatus from the scale. I was weighing myself faithfully once a week since 3 months out from RNY surgery on March 22, 2010 until September 11, 2012.
I am happy, content and at peace with my body. I actually feel and look better with the additional 7 pounds. Most people I know actually think I have lost more weight!
I do not participate in a formal exercise program due to Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis. I do move around a lot more and do a lot more walking.
I eat every 2-3 hours. I eat 3 main meals and 3-4 snacks daily that include protein.
I eat at least 100 grams of Protein a day. I eat dairy products that are no fat/low fat. I eat simple (dairy, fruit) and complex (beans, vegetables, whole grains) carbohydrates (I do not count daily grams). I also eat eggs. I am a Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian.
I take all of my supplements and drink 64 ounces of liquids minimum.
I have never introduced a food into my mouth that I have not planned to eat. I always consider the protein and nutritional value of each morsel.
I know this rigid, controlled way of life is not for everyone, but it works great for me!
I had my 3 year check up yesterday and my doctors office is still impressed with my success and my labs came back awesome!

Congratulations on your anniversary. Now that you have experienced how easy it is to put on weight (albeit wanted) you have an extra experience to counsel those coming up behind you, particularly as you were mindful of the need to amend what you were doing - which many are surprised they have to do!
