Change of taste
Since my surgery, I've read lots of posts about how people's tastes have changed, but hadn't noticed a tremendous difference in what I eat...maybe that it doesn't settle right, or just not as good as before surgery, but not really a noticeable difference in taste. That is until I bought a variety box of Quest bars. I LOVED lemon, always did...lemon bars, lemon meringue pie, lemon hard candies...anything lemon.
As I looked at the Quest website, I almost ordered a box of lemon protein bars, knowing that of all the bars those would be my favorite. The first bar I tried was one of the two (they gave me an extra bar with my order) banana nut bars. YUCK! For whatever reason, the bar tasted like old, nasty fish...or fish oil capsules. I tried the other to see if it was that bar, or me. It's me! Not such a peanut butter fan, I tried the peanut butter one, and it was SO good! Yesterday, I took the lemon one with me, as I ran some errands. As soon as I opened it, I knew it wasn't quite right. It smelled like Lemon Pledge furniture cleaner....the only bite I took of it tasted like that, too! OMG...horrible!
I still enjoy sugar free lemonade, but I don't think I'll be trying anything else lemony for awhile.
Some things that I didn't care for before, that I now find to be good still surprise me. I never liked pepperoni. I couldn't even eat pizza with taking the pepperoni off, because I could still taste it. Now, I LOVE pepperoni, especially turkey pepperoni.
Just strange how this has changed my tastes.

My entire taste changed! As time went by and I got up the nerve to re-try "nasty" (post-op) foods, I found that I liked and/or built up a taste for some of them again.
As far as protein bars and shakes go, I would just keep trying one kind at a time until you find what suits your taste (as it changes). You need them as a staple right now.
Your taste could change again so don't totally give up trying something that may taste horrible to you now again. So many like the Quest bars I tried them and the texture just doesn't work and they make me nauseated. I've tried several times, no go.

I know how you feel. Pre-surgery, I enjoyed a cup of coffee (or 2) every morning. LOVED my coffee!! And, liked it strong, too!
Post-surgery, I can barely stand the smell of any coffee products. My hubby still drinks it and I cannot even stand the smell of his empty coffee mug. Don't even mention walking into the office every morning where everyone drinks coffee.
I am really hoping that my coffee aversion goes away soon. I try it every now and again but NOPE! Can't do it.![]()
I am only about 1-1/2 months postop, but I can't drink coffee anymore either. Well, I won't say can't, but it just doesn't sound good to me anymore. I used to drink 2-3 cups a day, and have only had one cup of decaf since surgery and it was just ok. I have replaced it with hot tea, which I rarely drank before surgery!
I have the same problem with coffee. I used to get up early just so I would have time to go through DD drive through and now I have no desire for it. I have bought it a few times but only take a few sips before throwing it out. It used to be my calm before the storm in the morning before getting to work. I also have a problem with other drinks as well such as tea. I think it's the Splenda actually because I dislike anything with Splenda in it now!
