Feeling so conflicted.

Hey there. I am waiting for one more clearance before they get to scheduling my surgery and .....I'm feeling the pressure!!! I haven't been dieting at all for the past month but know that I need to be down 20 pounds by surgery as per my doctor.  I'm struggling to stay motivated - since it feels like surgery is so far away.....

Most of the issue is that I own my business and eat on the slide most of the time.  Anyone got any tips for eating right while working....or snacks that you keep around that make dieting easier???

thanks!!

I am getting revised from MGB to RNY in a few weeks due to complications of the MGB, not due to failure to lose weight.  Anyways, I keep reading that people have to diet the month or two before.  I don't quite understand that.  I ate like a piggie right up until the last second!  LOL  I mean, seriously, it's the last time you're going to be able to just eat whatever you want.  Maybe I'm missing something.

I know!! It seems crazy but apparently they will back out on me at the last minute if I don't drop the weight sooooo ill do it. I'm at the point where I gotta do it.....I'm just not 100 percent sure how. :D

It's not the last time you'll eat whatever you want ....    I eat whatever I want every day!

Maybe try a high protein, low carb plan for a while.  I found that after the first couple of days, my cravings pretty much went away and I wasn't nearly as tempted.  Try planning for plenty of high protein snacks - cheese sticks, yogurt, etc.

My surgeon gave me a pre op diet plan that consisted of 3-4 protein shakes a day and a small dinner of meat and veggies.  I lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks doing this - actually it was more like 10 days.  So I would think if you had a month or so it would work for you.   Did they give you any guidance or just say Lose weight?  Not nice to put you on a diet without a plan.

For me it worked to drink water or Crystal Light every time I wanted to eat between meals and a low carb, under 1200 calorie diet.  I drank over a gallon of fluid a day and kept my 55 lbs lost before surgery off to the day I went in.  Did I stray the week or two before?  Yes during meals but did not snack and kept the fluids going like crazy.  Also, I believe this helped me get more fluid down post op more quickly as I was over 64 ozs a day within a week and am now 100 oz plus of no calorie fluid per day.  I wish you the best of luck and look forward to seeing you on the bench.

I recommend planning each evening, for the next day...pack a lunch bag and only eat what is in it.  Drink LOTS of water. Keep your calories down around 1200-1400.  Keep the carbs down and the protein up.

It's SO hard to stay motivated!!! Especially when you don't have the tool of the RNY.    Hang in there!!

My surgeon required weight loss before surgery also.  He wanted me to lose 10 lbs, I lost 21 in 5 weeks.  He had a specific diet he wants his patients to use.  Lean meats and green leafy vegetables.....that's it.....3 meals per day, no snacking and 64 oz of water minimum.

If you aren't required a specific diet but have to lose weight go high protein low carb.  It really wasn't difficult at all.

I do not eat at work, at all, ever, unless it is a special special occasion, which I can't actually remember when the last one was, maybe Valentine's day when a co-worker brought in a special cake ball for everyone to try.  Otherwise I drin**** tea all day and start eating with dinner and then have two snacks.  If you have no food or money to get food and no access to food and you just work and don't think about it, it is rather easy.
