Gallbladder surgery, hernia repair and NSV today! Doing well :)
This morning, I had my gallbladder removed, along with an umbilical hernia repaired. My husband and I arrived at 6:30am, as instructed only to be told that I was the doctor's 10am surgery. So, we waited. My husband truly is an amazing person. I may complain about him (we've been together nearly 30 years) but when in need, he is right there at my side without a complaint. My recovery wasn't as it should have been. I have allergic asthma, but haven't had a severe attack...just discovered with testing and treated very well with an occasional inhaler use or minineb treatment.
Today, however, I thought I was going to die! I've had allergies for the last few days with sinus drainage, cough and itchy eyes. During recovery, I couldn't breathe. All at once, everything tightened up, I was wheezing and struggling to get a breath. As I raised my hand to get the nurse's attention, she was on the ball! She called for a STAT respiratory therapist...more than once. When the RT got there, she even fussed at him for taking so long. He gave me a breathing treatment, as she gave me meds in my IV, then he gave another kind of treatment that finally gave relief. I couldn't keep my oxygen up, though. It took forever! Finally, I was able to cough, use the Incentive Spirometer, and they let me come home. For a bit, it was a concern that I may have had to stay overnight. Not something I wanted to do.
Now, I'm doing fine with my breathing with my inhaler fixed at my side. I have a small amount of clear to reddish drainage from the far right incision and the one in my belly button.
I've been able to take 3 protein shakes, cottage cheese and SF jello without problems...also my nighttime meds. I've missed a few Calcium and my multivitamins, but I'll get back on track tomorrow.
My NSV, you ask?? I went to PreOp room to find a "normal" sized hospital gown on the bed. I thought about asking for a larger one, but decided to give it a try. OMGoodness! Not only did it fit around me, but I could tie it and it provided coverage! I was tooo happy :)
There is a 5 K walk/run that I wanted to do at the first part of May. I may not be able to do it. After recovery, I only have 2 weeks....give or take....to get ready. Guess I could go and just do as much as I physically can do? It's for Kentucky Association for Sexual Assault Programs, Inc. We'll see.
