Does/did anyone feel like this after RNY surgery?
I ask this question because I feel alone. I had my RNY surgery on Monday April 8th 2013. I am wondering to myself now, was it worth it? Can It be reversed? I think I made a huge mistake and was just so despret to not be fat anymore. I dont know what my body tells me. Am I hungry? Am I full? Do I feel like I am about to throw up? Do I feel like I have to go to the bathroom? Why is my stomach making these nasty growls? I am in pain. I am insulated. The Isopure makes me even more feel like I wanna throw up. I just wanna slap myself sometimes and wonder....wtf was I thinking? I just don't wanna do this anymore and want it reversed and just be done with it all......... On top of that I am so exhusted because I have to lay on my back and I am a belly sleeper. So I haven't really gotten any proper sleep. I don't know how long or when I should sip water or Isopure or eat jello. I dont know what the feeling of being full feels like........
Grrrrrr..... Has anyone felt like this? I have has a breakdown a few times because of this and I am not so sure if I wanna complete this. I was reading it can be reversed if I find a doctor who is willing to do it. What should I do?? Someone help?
It will get better-hang in there! The first few weeks are the hardest.
I am only 4.5 weeks out BUT this last week has been so much better!! I think a lot of people have these thoughts/feelings/experiences early on as they are trying to figure everything out-what works & what doesn't.
if you are unsure about what & when you should be eating/drinking-call your centre. That is why they are there, to answer those questions & provide support for you :)
Good luck, it really does get better :)

I think this is a common feeling. I remember laying in the hospital bed wondering WTH did I just do. Even a couple weeks out as I was still wasn't able to do too much (had open RNY) so couldn't lay on my side or belly and on liquids... I just kept thinking this shall pass. Now that I am able to move more and eat more of a variety, I am satisfied that I had this procedure done and I am sure it can only get better! And I can finally lay on my side!!! :)
I also felt that in the beginning, it was all so overwhelming. Trying to get in all protein, all liquids - there was so much to learn.
Hang in there, it will get better!
\It can be reversed but it's a difficult surgery and many docs don't do it. No surgeon is going to reverse it just a few days post op. It's usually only reversed if you have severe complications that cannot be treated any other way.
You don't know if you are hungry or full because when they did the operation, they cut the nerves that tell you if you're hungry or full. Those feelings will come back in time.
If you're in a lot of pain, call your doc and ask them to call in a script for more effective pain meds.
If you aren't sure about your diet plan for now, call the office tomorrow and ask. Basically, you should drink your water and Isopure and eat your Jello as often and for as long as it takes so that you get at least 64 oz of liquids and 60 grams of protein in.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
Yea, there are many people who initially regret the surgery. The good news is that most of them just hang in there and feel completely different about it in a couple of months after things have settled down. It is frequently called "buyer's remorse". The bad news -- something that your surgeon SHOULD have told you before you had surgery -- is that, although it is POSSIBLE for it to be reversed, there are only a handful of surgeons who are specifically trained to do it, and because a reversal is much more complicated than the original RNY, they will NOT reverse it just because someone has decided it was a mistake. Unless you havea compelling medical reason to have it reversed, the surgeon will not do it (and insurance won't pay for it).
So... Hang in there. It will get better. Your surgeon should have given you instructions for how often to "eat" and you should ALWAYS be sipping. Try a different protein water, .Cytomax makes one in three flavors that I think is INFINITELY better than the Isopure (which I think are thoroughly disgusting, and would rather be hospitalized and on an IV for fluids than drink those nasty things,). Drink and eat they punts specified by your surgeon and don't worry about what "full" feels like because right now you probably cannot physically feel full, anyway, because the nerves that were cut during surgery (a few people can feel full after a week or two but most don't feel it for over a month).

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I am almost 3 weeks out and have gone through the very same thing. I sometimes think what the hell did I do? Then I remember why I made the decision. I did it for me to be healthier. I did it to be a better mother to my children. I did it so I will be here to see them grow up. try to focus on why you sought out the surgery in the first place. That is what I am trying to do. Good luck!!
Find your docs paperwork read itagain. What is your meal plan for this time frame. Drink water try to get in 64 oz of water. Drink all day except when eating and for at least 30-45 min afterwards. How often does it say to eat and how much? My doc only allowed 3 meals a day,so if that's what your plan calls for set a schedule that works for you. For me it was 8,1,6.
At the time you schedule measure and eat or drink what your plan calls for. If you cant get it all in don't worry just stop if you feel full. You may not feel full, be happy with satisfied.
