Please noone telling me it's bad for you and what not, was just wondering if anyone has smoked pot after their new surgery and how long after they waited, I know my Dr didn't want me smoking cigs because of ulcers but marijuana is used to treat ulcers so I'm not sure. I do not get the munchies either. Again no judging!

I'm sure some people have smoked pot after WLS.  I haven't, though.  Perhaps you would be best to talk to your doctor about the potential risks so you can make an informed decision about it.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

Someone jut asked this a day or so ago, search back a screen or two to find her answers.  Always a good idea with any question, most have been answered.

smoking anything can exacerbate and ulcer. marijuana is not used to treat ulcers. it is used to stimulate appetite in patients with wasting due to AIDS or cancer or MS or other chronic, debilitating, or painful diseases, but even then, it is most often prescribed in pill form as marinol. very few states offer medical marijuana in the smokable form.

an ulcer often feels better when you eat, so people may mistakenly believe that marijuana is helping an ulcer, but actually is the effects of marijuana (eating, munchies dude) that is easing the pain, not the marijuana itself.

i won't tell you its bad for you because we all like to indulge in things that are bad for us now and then. but i will say that once you make anything a regular habit, then you have a problem. and you don't want to mess with an ulcer. i was hospitalized for almost a month due to ulcers, and i don't wish that on anyone. so be smart.

and just a ps: whatever you decide to make public on the internet, you will be judged. especially if its a controversial topic. no point in insisting that people don't judge you. just grow some thick skin and be confident in your life choices. if you're not, then maybe its a sign that you need to rethink  your behavior.

Just an FYI for the future - YOU don't get to choose what people think or reply if you ask a question here!   It might be helpful to put "no judging" because most people will judge you just based on that ****rtainly did!), but in the end, anyone can write anything to you as long as it's not against TOS!

As Heidi said, if you had looked a couple of topics back, you would find a thread that had a couple of pages on this subject ...   Your title says nothing of what you are asking, so many people will just pass on by, which is what has happened here!

It's always a good thing to check back a few pages or to do a search (there is a search function above) before you type a question and panic because people will say something negative to you!   This is good advice on any subject, not just marijuana!

Too late...I judged.  I think it's a stupid idea.

Surgery weight:  232 lbs. / Goal: 145 lbs. Height:  5'5"     Fat? Ain't nobody got time for that.

I went to Amsterdam when I was two years post-op and my boyfriend (now husband) and I frequented the coffee shops there and sampled several different strains. It was a blast. No ill effects, and 2 doctors have now told me outright that they would prescribe it to their anxiety patients if it was legal here.

There are a lot of misconceptions about medical marijuana--marinol is not nearly as effective as smoking because they remove part of what helps patients in the first place. Smoking marijuana does indeed help nausea subside and treats a wide variety of issues with little to no side effects, and I will link to some recent studies from the New England Journal of Medicine and Johns Hopkins when I have a free moment to get on JSTOR or EBSCO later today.

Frankly, the only thing that bothers me about pot is what bothers me about alcohol: People who do it and then drive. That's just plain stupid.
