I found out yesterday that I'm having my surgery on May the 13th. I started cutting back on carbs a little over a week ago and I've lost nine pounds. I have to start a low carb high protein diet on April 29th. my question is would you keep doing low carb until then or would you enjoy a few things before you have to start eating like that?

Personally i enjoyed it before my 2 weeks pre liquid diet. When i was in my liquid diet i mess up ones n when to d buffet but only ate 1 plate. But i still manage to loose 20 pounds in those 2 weeks. U still got about a month so u got almost 2 weeks before liquor diet so enjoy but don't over do it.

I think most of us enjoy the time before our liquid diet, but in retrospect wish we hadn't. We basically just added more weight to lose instead of just making smarter choices.

Enjoy, but don't over indulge. You don't want to gain a bunch of weight that you then have to lose all over again. Go and have that (small) steak and potato or ice cream sundae or whatever. You don't have to do it ever day or every meal.

I, like a dummy, ate everything in sight.  Gained  like ten lbs and then had to lose it once i got the surgery.  I totally blew my blood work.  Liver levels were sky high because of eating everthing in site.  My advice is to keep to moderation.  Don't pig out to much.  You will only regret it later.

By the way... good luck with your surgery.  You won't regret it.

Just remember that if you are adding processed carbs like crackers, rice, pasta and potatoes then when you start your pre op diet you will be craving the same carbs and not able to have them. And any weight you add you will then have to lose. I would stick with moderation if I were you.

I think you will be better served by not falling into the last supper mentality. For one, every pound you lose before surgery puts you that much closer to your goal. For two, this is a lifestyle chang and there are few foods,if any, completely off the table at a year or more out.
Surgery limits the amount I eat. I determine what I eat. So I could eat a lot of things including carbs. But I make choices not to since that is the road to perdition for me.

I had my surgical consultation on 10/22/12 and stopped soda, breads, rice, crackers, etc... that day. My RNY was 3/6/13 and I had one small "last" meal the week before I started my pre-op liquid diet. I believe this process made the pre-op diet and the post-op lifestyle much more tolerable. I did not and have not had any real cravings after the first couple of weeks. I consider this a true blessing. The decision is yours of course, but I believe I made the decision to change my lifestyle and my health and I wanted to be in as good health as I could possibly be when my surgery date came. I didn't want to add the extra burden to my body and extra stress during surgery.

Hope this helps to some degree.

I enjoyed myself, but not to the point where I gained weight. All of my blood work was done early so it didn't mess up any blood work. I knew I wouldn't be eating the nachos from Moe's anymore, or deep fried anything so I enjoyed it... One last time!!!! Good luck
