Need some guidance/help
I was quite heavy when I started 450 lbs and the lowest weight so far was 250 but now I've noticed a gain of 5 lbs. while I wanted to get done to 200 I have been happy at 250 but I refuse to gain it back. My surgeon is very happy with my progress and the NUT doesn't think my eating habits are bad but I wonder if I am letting to many carbs back in. So my question for those out there both those around the two year mark and the even longer termers. How much protein/carb/fat do you strive for and do you watch calories? I'm also going to wander thru the boards because I'm sure that similar questions have been asked.
Thanks for everyone who shares. ![]()
I aim for at least 70 grams protein, based on the ASMBS guideline of 1.1 grams protein per kilogram of ideal body weight. However, most days I get more like 90 grams or a little more. I don't count carbs, never have. I limit the starchy carbs like bread and pasta, though. I eat a lot of beans and all the fruits and veggies I want. I also eat dairy products. I don't really have a limit for fat, either. Most of what I eat is pretty low in fat, but I use olive oil for cooking, which is a healthy fat, and most of the time I use whole raw milk for my protein shakes.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I don't know that I will be of much help but only to tell you I can sympathize with you. I started out at 399 and my low was 262 last week and since that time, I've bounced back up to 267.....between me and another girl we moved our office practically by ourselves last week, I admit that my weekend was a little more because of my son's birthday but I can't figure out why I'm going up, when I certainly haven't ate that many calories. I tried to account for the sore muscles and lack of water....frustrating when I wanted to hit 249 before my 1 year appt with my surgeon the first week of June. Not sure I'll make that when I thought since I was starting out so heavy that I'd get there pretty easy but as with all things...nothing easy is worth having, I suppose. *sigh* hang in there!!!
Take care,
Sherry
