Anyone following the Paleo Diet? My surgeon said I should
You know it will take work too. But you are at the beginning your new life and lifestyle and are going to have to work at whatever you do so why not set yourself up for the healthiest life. The more I think about it the more I wish i would have done this. i found my cravings were gone for the junk after surgery. Now that I'm over two years out I'm craving the crap again. Why? Because I started incorporating it back in my life. Had I not, had I started the plaeo lifestyle I think I would have been better off.
Since I'm a vegetarian, it wouldn't work for me. And personally, I don't want a listen of foods I can never have again. There may be some foods I choose not to eat, but for the most part, I am more a believer in all things in moderation. I don't believe eating a whole wheat pita a couple times a week will keep anyone from losing weight or make anyone gain weight back. And processed deli meat is certainly not the healthiest food choice, but I don't think we need to eat the most perfectly healthy food all the time in order to lose weight and be healthy.

Ohh yes I saw Dr. Bruce yesterday as well, and he told me he wanted me to follow that diet as well. And now he wants me to come back once a month to have labs done. I personally think it is kind of crazy to go and change the whole guidelines after RNY. Yes it is not a bad diet but it is still a diet. I want to eat healthy but I do dairy, and I do protein shakes, and many things that they cant have on that diet.
If I couldn't have dairy I would never be able to get in the protein !!!! I have tried the bread and it is like rubber , even toasted.
It may be a great diet but after RNY...WHY do you need to follow a diet. I was told 80-100 grms of protein, no more than 5 grms of fat and no more than 5 grms of sugar per meal...I guess that is a "diet" but it is not like the pit we all have fallen into before WLS.....
I fought hard to get rid of the "diet head" and don't want to go back there.
I have lost all my weight without exercise and without "dieting"

No dairy products, no artificial sweeteners, and a list of foods I can and cannot have?!? No, thanks!!! That is NOT a lifestyle change, that is a DIET. I had surgery so I wouldn't ever have to diet again... and almost six years later I have never needed anything except sticking to my protein forward, limited carb food plan (under which I get a LOT of my protein from dairy products).
I think your surgeon did you a huge disservice actually encouraging you to stick with a "diet" mentality instead of adopting a general, healthy, balanced way of eating.
