I have updated my intake of water and fluids and am not urinating much
Okay so I made a post last night about being dehydrated. So I called my doctors office last night and left a message and he called me back. He said he wasnt worried unless I was weak, wobbly, and or dizzy. Well I am neither of those. Since last night I have updated my intake of water. And instead of sipping I have been taking bigger sips. But heres my problem. I am not urinating much. Last night before bed I did but it wasn't much but it was a clearish yellow. This morning I woke up and went to urinate and again there wasnt much to urinate. It was the same color as last night. My mouth is very dry and sticky. And when I take a sip of something to drink, its like I am thristy and a sip isn't doing anything. I have a white patch coat on my tongue. My lips are dry. But I am not dizzy. Nor do I feel faint. Nor do I feel wobbly when I stand. My skin is hot not too hot but the thermometer says I have only 97.9 temp. I did have a headache but I guess it was a hunger headache because I had some eggs and it went away. I don't know if I should listen to my doctor and go to the e.r. and get fluids or should I listen to my doctor when he says he isn't worried? At this point I am lost for words. What would you do in my situation? Do you think I am becoming dehydrated? Should I go to the e.r. and get fluids? What do I do? Grrrrrrrrr........
I disagree with the above poster...The whiteness on your tongue is very likely to be ketosis, if that's the only symptom you have anyway..
clearish urine means you're hydrating enough. You might not be peeing a lot because you needed the hydration and your body is using the fluids to function...know what I mean? Just because you are't peeing much doesn't equate deyhydration. I would listen to your doctor and NOT go to the ER, if he thinks you are okay, you probably are. Make an appointment for tomorrow. If you go to the ER you're going to sit there for anywhere from 4-8 hours and not be seen, most likely. Then have a huge doctor bill.
If your urine turns DARK yellow, or brownish then you have an issue. Right now it doesn't sound like you're dehydrated.
^^^ what she said. With light urine rather than DARK (which is what indicates dehydration) and still NO other signs of being dehydrated other than not peeing, it does not sound at all like dehydration. call them back tomorrow and make an appointment to have your tongue checked to see if it is ketosis, thrush, or something else.
if you specifically talked to the doctor a out this issue and he told you it was NOT a problem, then that supersedes his earlier, very general instructions to go to the ER "if you think you need to". He just told you that you didn't need to.
I think you are letting some of the "hype" on here about dehydration worry you unnecessarily.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Antibiotics are the reason you get thrush...you need anti fungal medication if it is, indeed, thrush...not antibiotics. It is likely that the white patch on your tongue is ketosis. Anesthesia from surgery can make you mouth feel dry for a long time. The headache could be from dehydration. Sugar free popsicles saved me at this stage. They are counted as liquid....so is Jello. If you don't tolerate the cold...try warm tea. Peppermint tea was much easier for me to get down than plain water, and it made the nasty taste in my mouth more tolerable. As long as your urine in clear and pale yellow...I don't think I would worry too much. Your body is using the fluids you put in...so you may not urinate a lot at first. Just keep trying to get in as much as you can...that is the most important thing right now.
Several people here AND more importantly, your doctor have told you that you are probably not dehydrated? I think it would do you the world of good to have something to eat, wait 30 minutes and have a nice drink of water or something and then go out for a walk or play with your son or just do anything that will make you think about something else...
The chances of you being dangerously dehydrated (ie enough to go to the ER) with your symptoms as you have expressed them here and to your doctor are slim - try and think about something else!!!

Listen to your doctor. Your output in urine should be roughly what you take in in fluids. But it still sounds to me that you are taking dainty sips instead of really drinking. Even if you are a bit dry that doesn't mean you need to go to the ER. ER is for life threatening emergencies. Just up your intake and chill out a bit. If you go to the hospital and get an IV, you are still going to have to go home and follow it up with oral fluids at home. You may have thrush on your tongue. It is a fungal infection that can start out from a dry mouth. That needs to be taken care of, but it is not an emergency. It's Sunday. Make an appointment to have your mouth looked at soon. Just call tomorrow. I don't think anybody's hyped you up to go to the ER. From your posts, it sounds like despite what anybody has said, including a doctor, it is just what you have it in your mind to do. Your urine is clear, you don't have a fever, you are able to keep fluids down, you are steady on your feet, you are chatting online. I think you are going to make it until you can get a proper office visit.
Also, insurance companies are starting to get smart about frivilous ER visits. I had to sign a paper stating whether I was instructed by a physician or nurse to come in or if I just came in on my own I had passed bloody stools. I actually was instructed by my surgeon to do so even though I was hoping he'd just set me up for an endoscopy that day.
