what to eat when dining out?

I am two weeks out and I am starting to get back in the rhythm of things with friends and family and occasionally we enjoy eating out, but I cringe at the idea of it because I am afraid that the restaurant menu will not have anything healthy for me.
Before surgery I could eat just about anything on the menus, so my question is-- what are some of the best choices at the fast food restaurants like McDonalds,KFC, Frisch's, Burger King and especially pizza joints?

I know a lot of these listed restaurants do not provide very healthy choices, but something on their menu should be healthy enough to hold me over until my next healthier meal.

Hi there!  What does your plan allow you at this stage?  At two weeks, I was just going onto soft, pureed foods so there would not have been anything for me at any of those places except maybe mashed pots and I didn't want white carbs so that was out.  Chili would be ok.  We just went to a Waffle House which has ABSOLUTELY nothing for me to eat and the waitress hard boiled two eggs for me!

If your diet plan allows you to eat anything then you can pull up the menus for those places and check out the nutritional values.  Grilled chicken, baked beans, cottage cheese, plain yogurt are all I can think of for that stage.  I could only eat a tablespoon or two by 2 weeks so take your baby spoon with you! Someone on here used to have in her signature line the cutest saying:  "I have a baby spoon and I am not afraid to use it!"LOL

You could go and have decaf coffee or tea with artificial sweetner.

Sorry this is rambling, and the vets will chime in with great selections soon.

Good luck!

I guess it depends on what's in your plan. Mine said no restaurants until we were 6 months out. I did go out before that though. We had Chinese and I just had the broth on the wonton soup.

Honestly, I haven't been to a fast food joint since surgery. I avoid them. They really have nothing to offer in my opinion.

Soup or chili is usually a safe choice.  When you are farther out I would say salads too, but it is way to soon for that.

My plan did not allow regular foods so early. The above mentioned restaurants had nothing I could eat for months. At 4 years out, McD's has salads and Wendy's has chili or anything else I can order and take off the starches/breads.

Hope you find something and please be careful.

at 2 weeks out , I doubt that there is anything that would be on your plan at these particular "restaurants , why go back to old habits ? or put yourself through it???

If you were at an actual restaurant , you could have some soup.

I am 1 year out and am at goal , if we do "fast food" I will have the meat off on 1/2 double cheeseburger and 3 fries and 1 onion ring...I am satisfied and full , but as I said I AM ONE YEAR OUT , at 2 weeks , it was soup

I also did not eat out at 2 weeks....

But when I did (only occasionally at about 4-6 weeks), I chose ala carte things like scoorp of cottage cheese, eggs, scoop of tuna or chicken salad... stuff like that!

I'm 5 months out and still order soup at restaurants.  I don't take too many chances when I go out to eat.  Soup would be best.

I would try very hard to avoid fast food. This is your time to be selfi****'s all about you. If people want to go to a fast food resturaunt tell them you can't go.

Other than chilli there can't be much on your plan 2 weeks out. Later many have grilled chicken wraps. Loose the wrap and it usually has about 15 grams of protein and not too carb heavy.
