Pure protein bars
Hi,
How high in calories? I know they make a Pure Protein bar with less than 200 cals and I think 20-23 gms protein.
My shakes were supposed to be less than 200 calories and at least 20 gms protein. So I look for protein bars with the same criteria. If you can tolerate them, I would give them a try since they are sorta like a solid version of shakes. Some people do well with them.
Have you checked with your dietician's office? I use them once in a while when I am running low on protein and I do not feel like cooking.
personally, I think they are so yummy! I prolly avoid them except once in a while cuz I would be tempted to eat too many, LOL, but that is my addiction.
However we can get our protein is is good, I think. I still cannot tolerate dense meats. But I do well with ground beef, ricotta, cottage cheese, regular cheese, beans, eggs, fish. These are becoming my preference and I was hard core red meat, pork before.
Good luck and good question.
Costco sells a "Premier" protein bar that asserts it delivers 30 grams of protein. The box of 24 comes with 8 bars in each of three flavors. The bars average 270 calories.
I've had one of these bars nearly every day for over two years as my lunch. They're neat, portable, filling, and tasty. I might have had a little trouble finishing a bar when I was early on in my convalescence, but that was a long time ago.
I've managed to lose over 130 pounds and keep it off. Can't say I'd want to make a big deal out of the difference between 200 calories in one bar and 300 in another. That's not a big deal. Eat what tastes good and what works for you.
Good luck.
I will preface this by saying that I am not a fan of any protein bars except for emergency food. I find it interesting that you say that you are having trouble getting all your protein in with food... but a protein bar IS food, and most protein bars are so dense that when you are early out you can eat only half of one. There are healthier items (look at the boatload of chemicals in the protein bar ingredients!) that will give you 14 or 15g of protein. Half a serving of tuna, for example, or a container of Greek yogurt.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I eat the chocolate deluxe. 180 calories is not high and they keep me full for hours. I like them.

I have had pure protein bars before but pre-op i personally loved pre-op atkins meal replacements bars.. a whole pb one was 17g protein and 230 calories maybe?? like 2g sugar but did have like 9g sugar alcohols. I heard the Oh yeah bars are good too but i don't know nutritional facts on those. I hope when i go back to a regular diet i am on soft foods now i can have atkins bar again without any problems. Personally i doubt you would eat enough anyway to cause a problem... high protein is what counts. And honestly do you think you would eat a whole protein bar? I would say go for it!
I understand how early post-op'ers like me find protein bars such a convenient way to get in what's seems like an impossible amount of protein per day...fortunately, I tired of them after 3 months. Now, at 5 months out, I find it easier to make better food options to get in the required 65 grams of daily protein. My daily staples/favorites are: a cup of milk mixed with 1 scoop chocolate Unjury protein powder, chili, eggs, Greek yogurt mixed with fruit and nuts, variety of cheeses, tuna or other fish, lean meats with a vegetable side. Come summer, I plan to add lettuce salads and protein smoothies.
