Is sweet tea ever allowed again- It's a Southern Thing

Hi Everyone, I am 9 days post -op.  Everything is going good except for pain in my left rib, almost constantly and trying to get this dang fluid down.

Is it ever allowed to have sweet tea and I'm not talking about with Splenda.  I made a pitcher of that already and I can't handle it.  My have a weird throat... Any type of diet drinks, lemonades, unsweet  tea sweetened with artificial sweetners make my throat hurt and it gets raw.  I have always had problems with my throat since I was 13 so I don't know that's a whole different subject.

My cousin had bypass in 2004 and she said she came out drinking sweet tea from a straw and never bothered her.   I am too scared... Thought I would ask around before I attempted that.  I think it would help me get my fluids down that is for sure.   My cousin has done real well, she is maintained at 130 pounds and you never see her without a big glass of sweet tea.  LOL

I don't' even have to have caffeine tea I can handle the decaf tea.   Any comments, anybody else try it?

Thanks in advance...

Andrea

Let me make sure I understand correctly.  You are 9 days or and have already tried the sweet tea?  Was it made with an artificial sweetener?

Drinking calories is usually strongly advised against since it is SO easy to consume much more than you intended, and it doesn't do anything to help you not feel hungry, BUT... If you are willing to make room in your food plan for the a lories, you can (eventually!) try some with real sugar.  Be prepared to possibly dump, though, because sugary drinks cause dumping more easily and quickly than sugary food (because the sugar gets to the intestine so much more quickly than it would with food).

No, no   I tried some with Splenda.... I guess I just need to keep experimenting until I find the right balance for me..  It just didn't taste good and I poured it down the drain.

I found a post and I wanted to run it by you and see if you have heard of it.   It's called Tealicious... It has 23 grams of protein per serving and 90 calories.  They say its really good... Have you heard of it, this was a order post on this site.

I appreciate all your posts, I read them all..  It's nice to be able to have someone that has already been through it.

Thanks again

Different sweeteners have different tastes, so definitely keep trying.  I reasonably prefer Truvia in liquids.

I had not heard of Tealicious, but did a Google search.  It is apparently part of the Syntrax Nectar protein line, so it is whey protein which is what we want.  I have tried several of their flavors and liked some but not others.  See if you can get a sample first to try it because even if ten people love something, you may hate it.  I, for instance, couldn't gag down an entire glass of Click unless my life literally depended on it, but many people adore it.

Really glad to read that about Click, I've read so many favorable reviews about it, I thought for sure I could use it for a replacement in the afternoon for my coffee something but icky!! I put it right down the drain!  So, glad it was a freebie!

Mio makes a sugar free sweet tea that tastes pretty good.  You can find it by the Crystal Light.  It comes in a little squirt bottle and you can add as much as you want to a glass or bottle of water.

I'm a born and raised southern girl so I understand. I do have a few sips here and there but never a whole cup/glass. I am always drinking water or a protein shake but if my mom has a sweet tea i will steal a few sips. If I drank the whole glass I'm sure it would make my heart race like crazy(my reaction to big amounts of sugar and it ain't pleasant).

I don't recommend drinking it like you do water. A few sips and set it aside. Too much sugar, calories, etc. Moderation is key for these things, especially sweet stuff.

I drink diet Snapple tea, usually the diet peach Snapple, in the bottle.  Did I like it at first? No!  I love it now.  I kept forcing myself to drink it till I got used to it.  I also drink the Venti Passion Tea, no lemon, no sugar, with 4 splenda from Starbucks.  Love it!  Make sure they don't put the lemon in it because it is a lemon syrup that adds 70 calories.

You are allowed to have anything you want.  You're an adult, you get to make your own choices.

Are you asking if sweet tea is a good choice?  I guess that depends on  how much you drink and how often and how much sugar you put in it.  Drinking calories is a really easy way to get a lot of calories in, and if you drink a whole lot of calories, you may not lose all the weight you want to lose and/or gain weight back later on.  In addition, some people dump on too much sugar, so sweet tea might make you feel very, very ill.  But if you don't mind those things, you can drink it.
