How many used a shower chair?

I'm preparing for surgery, don't have a date yet. I'm wondering if I should buy a shower chair.

No, you do not need a shower chair. I don't know of anyone who had one. You should be well enough when you go home that you can stand for 5-10 minutes in the shower. For the first few days, you want someone at home with you to help when you need it.

Oh, I so disagree.  I have hip issues but the weakness and fatigue were overwhelming and if I hadn't had my chair I would have been in trouble.  If you wish to get a chair, get one.  I got one with a back on it and if you don't use it, no big deal. To be able to sit and let the ho****er run on me did me wonders without trying to stand.   Again, the fatigue can be especially tiring. NO one can determine they should be able to stand for 5 or 10 minutes in a shower. That is strictly a person by person basis.  Jane

Unless you have complications or are severley weak you should be fine standing for a quick shower. I was lucky enough to have someone able to be with me for my first week of showers at home but if you feel safer in a shower chair by all means get it. Your safety comes first.

We'll see, then. My master shower has Oh Sht handles, so those should help me sit on the side of the tub if I run out of strength. It takes forever to wash my hair but I'm planning on cutting it after surgery in preparation for hair loss and for something for my mother and I to do.

My first few showers, which I started in the hospital, consisted mostly of holding my stomach while standing under the water. I have thick, shoulder length hair and could only wa**** with one hand. Really, how dirty could it be? It didn't take long to feel stronger. I would also wrap up in a beach towel and sit down to dry. That's when I could let go of my stomach to condition and comb my hair. It's very tiring at first but it does get better quickly.

Not unless you need one now.

My girlfriend, who is a nurse, was convinced I would need one and brought one over my first day back home.  I've never used it to sit, but it is a nice addition when it comes to things like shaving my legs (I have a walk in shower without any built in shelves or bench.

My shower has these shelve like things in the corners, I admit I sat on those for the first few days.  I was just so darn weak.  But like I said before, I had a problem with the blood thinner and lost A LOT of blood during the surgery and after, and on the full liquid I wasn't building it back very fast.  I was pre warned I would be super duper weak.

I didn't need one of those, but for much of month one was REALLY envious of anyone I saw with a walker!  Most people though seem to heal more quickly than I did.  Which is fine, as long as I did heal, that's all that mattered.
