XP_ Adrenal insufficiency after WLS
If you have AI – Primary or Central… and had WLS – can you share how do you deal with it? This is new to me…
FYI: I am 5 years post op RNY. Last 2 years I have been dealing with severe RH and Hypoglycemia. I also had a very hard time with recovery after my last surgery in 2009. It took me a year. On top of that, I noticed that I really had a very hard time dealing with stress.
Finally after 2 years of struggle I was able to see a great endo and after a bunch of tests I was diagnosed with SAI. (Secondary adrenal insufficiency)
Who knows how long this is going on. That may have been a reason for my weight gain and feeling tired way before WLS.
Please let me know how do you deal with that.
Note: if you don't know what AI is, symptoms, or tests - google that...

I noticed you on fibromyalgia forum - some people who have fibro - have that due to adrenal issues. Same CFS.
typical PCP do not know how to test that. A lot of endo - don't know that either - or ignore that.
You need to ask PCP to test your morning (6-8 am) FULL hormonal panel. ALL of them. Then based on the results - do more testing.
I had low BP, postural hypotension, developed allergies, hypoglycemia, etc.
My morning ACTH and cortisol were low, as well as HGH.
Additional tests showed SAI. But another endo - just blamed my issue on RNY... and dumping... moron.

With adrenal problems, I'd take the daily max for vitamin C (4000mg), 100mg of pantothenic acid, and 800mcg of chromium.
I'd also stop eating sugar, caffeine and switch to a high protein, low carb diet. I might take 5HTP OR Tryptophan (but not both) depending on which works best.
And then just wait.
Consider reading The Mood Cure and The Diet Cure by Julia Ross. She knows her stuff. I tried one of her recommendations for the amino acid Tyrosine for energy, and as a long time sufferer of panic attacks, had a huge one. I emailed her clinic and they helped me out with additional information.
