WLS surgery patients blasted on the Radio this AM

I went to a new rheumatologist once for treatment of my severe arthritis and one of the obvious treatments was Nsaids and I said I had gastric bypass surgery and I could not take them.  He was floored, he said he had never seen anyone do so well with weight loss surgery and asked when I had it done, I was about 5 years out at that time.  You could of picked his jaw up off the floor.  I refuse to be a statistic of a failed wls, never ever ever will I allow myself to gain it all back.  And I hear it all the time how it always fails and everyone gains it back, but I LOVE to be the thorn in everyones side that is still rocking my size 6 body 8 years later.  The haters inspire me to work harder, hence the reason I have to come here, to motivate and be motivated.

I dont care how many stories I hear about how WLS doesn't work.

It just helps me strengthen my resolve when the going gets tough!

I will remain a success!!!!!

I was shocked myself.  Even if there is talk of the 2016 election he could have been well on his way if he had another form of WLS.  There is the Sleeve and DS besides the RNY.  now with the Band if let's say he should run and win he may find himself having problems while in office and then we are talking about a revision that is more complicated and doing that and trying to recover holding office?  Sigh..........

I feel sorry for the guy.  My decision to have WLS was very private and personal.  I can't imagine how it would feel to have the whole nation discussing my choice and sitting around waiting for me to fail so they can blast me and others who have made the same choice.  You know the part that really stinks is that if he had underwent some other type of surgery he might have gotten a blurb in the local papers but I highly doubt the Today show would have been covering it.

I agree it is quite sad.  At least I have the choice of who I tell and when.

I let myself get sucked into a stupid fight on another discussion board today over this. I was told that I was weak, lazy, and that if the surgery doesn't kill you, it will give you massive and constant diarrhea. LOL. Just remember that most of the "experts" are random uninformed people with "friend of a friend" anecdotal horror stories and very often with chips on their shoulders.

I had my surgery in January 2011, and I'm four pounds below my goal weight and holding. And poopin' just fine, thank you very much. :)  The surgery has me in such poor health that I ran a very hilly half-marathon last Saturday, and to reward myself, I'm buying some rollerblades this weekend.

I'm fit, healthy, happy, and looking good -- oh what a horrible mistake I have made.  ;)

I'm not trying to get into an arguement about various types of WLS, but my own personal anecdotal info is that people have good results with lapband in the short run. My daughter has lost about 110 pounds and is stable. I don't know if there's a revision in her future or not. (Personally, I think there will be, but....)

I do know a woman who did the same thing, but after three years she started to have a lot of trouble with the band. I believe the Gov will do fine through 2016. He may need to do something else later, but as somebody pointed out, he has the resources to deal with most eventualities.

I'm very happy for him!
